Could this be the end of plunging cleavages, boob hugging tops, cropped tees, insecure bare legs, bloody twerking asses in skinny jeans and stripper short shorts? Errr no, BUT it is the dawn of yet another bare-it-all trend, this time though much more do-able, easy to pull off and age/body/style appropriate for pretty much everyone. Drumrolls please (in case the title wasn’t a clear giveaway)… OFF THE SHOULDERS TREND is back in business baby cause, (1) apparently everything that was once hot in the 90s is too cool to not do again, and (2) somebody’s just had it with trends that imply model bodies (Amen to that!), but still wants to give the people some eye candy you know. When Al Pacino once said in a film, ”give the people what they want!”, I’m pretty sure he didn’t mean flaunt your fucking shoulders, but he might as well have implied it. No? No.

Anyway. The BARE SHOULDERS look is massive for 2014 summer. Not new at all, but better than ever for sure. Back in the day (in those 90s that, as much as I love, are beginning to be quite a redundant thing these days) I used to be obsessed with this look, and couldn’t wait for summer to ask my mom to buy me tops that have straps or sleeves off the shoulders, or large round necklines so that one side might ‘accidentally’ fall of my clavicle. You’d think since then (let’s just say it’s been a while) I’ve changed. Nope.

Well, now nothing is accidental anymore, my mom doesn’t buy my clothes, and I’m not waiting for summer to wear God knows what. But other than that…

When my friend once told me ”Ah, if I had shoulders like yours, I’d refuse to cover them up”, I thought what a wtf!-statement, cause you know, first of all – everyone has nice shoulders, and second, even if some are better than others, how are you gonna use that shtick? I know, I know I got a short memory, as my 90s off-the-shoulder-look had then, elapsed my mind.

Speaking of the 90s, remember Kelly Kapowski? She LIVED in off the shoulders tops. But it’s back, in both my mind as in fashion and I’m loving every minute of it, not cause of my friend’s endearing comment, but cause of the look this style implies: bohemian, effortless and over the top feminine. I stand corrected as I never gave much attention to the power of the shoulders, when in fact, NOW I believe they’re the sexiest part of a woman’s body.

I mean boobs & asses are great, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes a little subtlety and mystery go a long way. Off the shoulders comes like pretty much a natural NEXT-TREND, given the 90s and all that, but also a return or beginning of new summer styles: relaxed. cool. ladylike, slightly cheeky. edgy, but very very very chic and easy to do. Retail chains are practically throwing OFF THE SHOULDERS DRESSES & TOPS at us and we all say our thank you’s while flaunting the easiest and most ‘we’re-comfortable-to show-off’ body part.

Although most of the bare shoulders looks basically imply a boho-chic meets cool Aussie chick and Brazilian babe, the trend is still quite versatile.

Silky or structured off the shoulders tops can go well for lunch in the city or office hours. Flirty 60′s and 70′s style dresses with cap sleeves slightly hanging off the shoulders are very ANYWHERE-appropriate. Maxi dresses with short, long or even straps hanging off your bare shoulders have that summer vacation versus city vibe to them. Styling an off the shoulders look is paaaalease, like styling a pair of flats. Not to mention it’s a trend that can marry and live side by side with so many other major summer trends: crop tops (with short or long off the shoulder sleeves), sheer fabric so that, you know, we can peek at your funky bra, cutoffs, palazzos, maxi skirts, heels, espadrilles… and the list goes on and on and on.

TIPS: You can wear your hair down slightly messy in those beach waves, or pull it up in a messy ponytail/bun and expose those shoulders. Jewellery wise thin necklaces, layered or not, look fab with off the shoulder tops or dresses, and body jewellery is puuuuurfect for a sheer or cropped off the shoulder top. Lace off the top dresses & tops look best! You can DIY this trend with oversized rounded neckline tops that you wear off one shoulder. :) More inspiration here:

What better way to start off a week than talking about and staring at men, with the ever-present and oh-so-real fashion pretext. Okay so we might be winning both ways here, like getting some eye candy (hello!), but also (and really kinda more importante) showing you, the beloved boys in our lives, 8 TIPS for what to wear in 2014 summer. To avoid looking plain, you know. Not that you’d even come close to this predicament but anyway. Pissed off and tired of seeing men and boys wearing the same shit every summer, with an inherent cockiness as if they’re David fucking Gandy, in the name off all women, and those boys who do know what to wear – this post was born. Seriously, tight clothes are for tight looking people. Brainless colors are well, for… you guessed it, brainless people, unless you know how to do them of course. Shorts are for boys only, unless (and this is a big unless) you’re a true man with a natural born style. Then, chances are you can pull them off. Don’t, please DON’T do all trends at once mates, and above all, avoid looking too primped, and groomed, and tucked in, and ironed, and clean, and cut, and all that shit. Oh… and grow a beard please.  1. BASIC T-SHIRTS

All men look so much better in basic white, black or grey tees. Or, given that it’s summer, so I don’t wanna ruin your color style mojo, do colored basic. That is, one-color tee. Forget graphic, text, slogans. Leave those to teens and your FB feed. V-neck styles look amazing, a bit slouchy, vintage looking, or you can do the polo neck tees. They’ve got a bit of that bad-boy-trying-to-pass-off-as-good vibe. Besides, basic looks great with anything, so it’s one less style headache to worry about. Have a look…  2. PRINTS

If you can’t tame your inner fashionisto and insist on doing prints, 2014 summer says 3 prints are in: TROPICAL (Hawaiian tees, shirts and shorts are HOT), STRIPES, and PLAID. On the how to style them topic, basically, all goes with almost anything except: never do a busy shirt with those heavy too trendy pants like ripped jeans. It’ll look ridiculous. 3. SHORTS

To my utter dismay, shorts are making quite the comeback in 2014 summer, and the best styles to buy and wear are: chino shorts, cotton shorts, short shorts (especially in tropical prints for the beach). You may wanna rethink your denim. On the TIPS side: cuff, cuff, cuff boys, and you’ll be able to get away with almost anything. The ideal length is slightly above your knees. Pockets look great.

Chinos can look great with espadrilles and tees for a beach summer’ish look, or can even look smart paired with a shirt, blazer and oxfords. 4. THE CUFF

The greatest style trick of them all – THE CUFF (rolling your trousers’ hem) – will save the day for any men in any occasion. Cuffed trousers look so much better than un-cuffed whether it’s for a beach laid back style or for office. The same can be applied for shorts, T-shirts and shirts. 5. SHIRTS

Of course they continue to be the #1 staple for any season, with a great focus on all denim & Hawaiian style shirts. But any shirt will look great if it’s got that rugged vintage vibe to it & rolled up sleeves. Major trend alert: short sleeve shirts are back in style, with a few tips. Button them up all the way for a more clean cut edgy look, unless you’re hitting the beach, of course. 6. SHOES

Whether it’s boat shoes, espadrilles, oxfords, brogues, flip flops, rope/canvas soled sandals – ONE thing is major here – NO SOCKS. Under no circumstances boys. Choose the blisters if you have to.

Brogues and oxfords can be worn with shorts and a blazer for a smarter look. Brown shoes are making quite the statement the season. 7. SUMMER OFFICE LOOKS

Keep it monochromatic and basic. All black style (blazer + tee + shorts; or cuffed shirt + cuffed pants) looks great with brown brogues or oxfords. Or just keep it all neutral and pretty basic, but have fun with accessories (bags, shades, belt, watch). 8. VESTS 

Ah… those 90s again, with their California surfer style vest, in neon pop ups and palm-tree prints. These… are back! Sure, you gotta be slightly toned to say the least, but hey, we’re doing the cropped motherfucking trend. You think that’s easy? And last but not least, remember boys always have fun. Unless you’ve been living under a rock so far, you’ve probably been tormented by this question and found yourself the victim of this love and hate shoe relationship. EVERYONE who’s anyone in fashion is wearing these mofos. I wonder, is it all just a case of playing cool with the most horrendous shoe in the history of mankind, are we really that mental, OR are they really a pretty darn sight on our feet?

Be honest here. That it’s no longer ‘cool’ to look pretty and off-the-retail-rack-dressed is no news (the normcore trend hello!), but when did Seinfeld and Newman become fucking style icons? While the BIRKENSTOCK trend feels like a massive inside joke from the sartorials, apparently everyone bought it. And not only that, but joke’s on whoever planned the prank (assuming they did), cause bloggers, stylists, and fashion maniacs all over the world started a fashion movement, cashing in on attention and bucks. With all the trends being accessible to every poor little wannabe’s fingertips & pockets, the posh ones decided they no longer wanted to look generic and bland, so instead they’re doing the opposite, which I think is pretty great. As a statement. Would I go normcore? Would you?

It’d certainly be a whole lot cheaper raiding our moms’ and dads’ clothes. My dad would probably laugh his ass off if he saw me in one of his 90s T-shirts or jerseys, paired with some mom jeans and, to pull it all together, wearing birkinstocks. Ha! He, and the rest of the world, would probably think it’s April’s Fool. Joke’s on them. No? Okay, so here’s the cold harsh truth: I am not mentally sane.

(1) on some good days, I LOVE birkenstocks, when my full-of-herself-persona feels style-confident, but doesn’t really give a crap about humans’ perception, with an all around day mantra of ‘Fuck you all, I’m rockroll‘. Cause really it takes a certain kinda mood, attitude and style to wear birkenstocks AND look great. The 2 concepts do not necessarily exclude each other. Style wise these shoes do not make justice for anyone, yet there’s a certain kinda coolness and French chicness, blended with a 90′s grunge, and a classic case of je m’en fiche – that make birkenstocks work. You’d be surprised to see how posh these too-comfortable shoes can make you feel, even when you pair them with office wear. Sure it’s not your classic per se smart attire, but an all-black or an all-white trouser suit with these sandals has got quite a sophistication to it.

Sporty looks, slouchy jeans, skinny jeans, crop tops, dresses, bermudas – anything really works. It’ll look clashed, but eclectic. Weird but intriguing. Not pretty, but fucking stylish. (2) on bad days, I HATE birkenstocks, when it feels like everyone is literally nuts, thinking that they look oh-so-posh when in fact they look like 50 year old German tourists, or Americans stuck in a 90s shopping mall, with their khaki bermudas, fanny-packs and fast-food cravings. And indulgings obviously.

And yes, it’s on these days that I find birkenstocks and the whole normcore thing a big pile of shit, shoved on the throats of consumerists and fashion victims alike, who just swallow this bullshit as if it’s a bloody $90 cake suppose to make you orgasmatic and skinny at the same time. And who’s the bigger idiot really?

Will we, in one year time, bring back the stripper heels and then so dramatically confess our total dislike, and RELIEF that these once cool sandals are finally gone?

I wouldn’t be surprised. They are definitely part of a fashion & social movement, which I applaud and salute. They exude a certain fashion, and to wear them one has to have a certain style, attitude, and ability to have fun and laugh both at fashion and at their own self. This, I find liberating.

But they’re still ugly as fuck.

You know the saying, ‘Give a girl the right shoes and she’ll conquer the world’? Well designers have certainly put their minds this season to prove this saying right (as if it needed more proving) and to make us more financially irresponsible when it comes to shoes. Like that was possible.

Of course it was. Doh. 10 pairs of shoes for this summer is not such a big deal, especially since some of these styles we already own. Who’s to say we can’t buy extra though? Different colors. Different textures. I mean, Victoria Beckham buys the same dress in every possible color, cause… it’s not the same dress if it’s a different shade. DOH.

Same goes for shoes ladies. I think we can all agree, when it comes to the feet-adorning-expensive-ludicrously-sexy-versus-comfy-soles-with-a-body, ALL women love to spend, and own as many pairs as there are days in a year. Designers know this. So do retail chains. And it seems as if this summer there’s a fashion conspiracy to make us bankrupt in fabulous shoes. Almost ALL styles are IN, and sitting this one out would be such a shame. So let’s get this thing rolling and see which shoes we MUST buy and wear this summer. SPOILER: the best ones have made the cut, from comfy to impossibly sexy, YET other styles are not excluded. With one amendment though, they must make us feel like a sartorial connaisseur/bitch-I-own-this-look! – on heels or not.1. SNEAKERS. They’ve been around since, well forever, but only for the past say… 4 years have they been in the fashion focus of things, paired with anything that crosses our minds from skirts to sequined dresses to suit trousers or sporty attire. (this of course is a no-brainer, but still stands the test of time). No longer a gym or geek’ish shoe, sneakers and trainers go to Fashion Weeks and even on the red carpets (hello Kristen Stewart!). This summer the white sneakers and thick soled ones are a massive hit as well as the bright styles that just pop against a completely mismatched outfit. 2. GLADIATOR SANDALS. This is not Sparta, but this is Fashion Land for sure. Romans meet Greeks on the streets of every town anywhere in 2014. Thin or slightly thick soled sandals made of thousands of straps that cage the feet all the way to the ankles or even knees – are the shoes to wear this summer if you wanna walk for miles, and miles, and miles, while looking very very chic. Black ones are quite the dark edgy statement, nude ones elongate of course, and white ones (in fewer straps) look kinda posh. Colored ones… I don’t fancy, but I’ll take gold or silver styles anytime. Heels too please. :) 3. ESPADRILLES. Ah… the shoes of summer. Of course they’re back, and we already talked about styling them here. 4. CHUNKY SHOES. It wouldn’t be the revival of the 90s without these ones, nor the heavy 70s influence going on for a while now. So boho-chic looks are IN. Well… it only makes more sense to go full-70s, or half-70-half-90s on this one, and do the chunky heeled sandals, the heavy looking shoes, the big square heels. You know, the ugly shoes that actually look great! 5. STILETTOS. Opposites coexist. Extremes meet. Contradictions give birth to great styles. It’s the season of all is in, so if you pass by a girl in 70s shoes on the street and then one in stiletto heeled pumps (you know, the classic ones Kim Kardashian is rarely seen without since her Kanye style period), keep walking, in your sneakers or ballet pumps. You’re not off-trend, and neither are they. Buuuut, I’l say this about the stiletto pumps trend: THANK GOD! We’ve been wearing them forever, and who the hell are we kidding, stilettos look so much better than chunky. And make ANY outfit look absolutely trendy. 6. LACE-UP SANDALS. Err it’s stilettos and high-end gladiators reunion people. A party of luxe & fashion at your feet, which, we’ve already covered here. 7. MULES. Ugly shoes, ugly shoes. (read this as if you sang: ‘smelly cat, smelly cat’). I started off spring with a slight meh for this trend. Today… (as it usually happens with me) I got bitch slapped by the very trend and woke up loving it. Wore mules once, shall wear them again. More on these shoes here. 8. BIRKENSTOCKS. Ooooooooh it’s the infamous shoe! Cindyfuckingrella-turned-queen-over-night shoe. I’m still in denial with this one, yet I bow to those who know how to wear the ugly sandal AND look great! More looks here. 9. ANKLE STRAP SANDAL. The sexy shoe was on a roll last summer and is still up high in the sky, trending big time. More on the hot as hell sandal here. Oh… and it goes with anything. Literally. 10. CUTOUT BOOTS. Remember this post on summer boots? Well… the trend is still in, apparently, but more niche oriented. Errrr… sartorials only, cause seriously who else would wear heavy boots in summer? The look is absolutely fantastic for a more rocknoll edgier style, so why the hell not. What shoes could you not live without, were you to choose?

Assuming y’all have beards, tattoos, and a major case of sex appeal, you’re only left with one summer massive trend to check off your fashion lists: BROWN ACCESSORIES. From sunglasses, to belts, to bags, backpacks, shoes, bracelets, hats and whatnot – as long as they’re 50 shades of brown, you’re one big mother fucker. Fashion & style wise.

When it comes to this summer, MENSWEAR screams one style – VINTAGE with a twist – hence the brown shades and style accents to whatever look or outfit you have. So, how come brown is the new black? And when did our beautiful lads decide to ditch their black shades and rocknroll attire, for a more bohemian approach to fashion?

The heat. For one. And the versatility of any nude, sand, light or dark brown accessory. And really kudos to you all, for coming up with this classy gimmick, cause it does easily translate from and to any style. Being neutral, it easily goes with absolutely any outfits, from your regular business suit, 9-5 boring office style, to holiday getaways, to dates, to long walks around town outfits. And even if fashion is not on your mind (although, who the hell are you kidding but yourselves, we know you boys are into this shit), adding a bit of brown accents to your looks is the easiest way to trendy-up your style, with the slightest effort both shopping as well as money wise. BROWN SUNGLASSES. Vintage styles are major this summer, with brown shades (from the darkest to the lightest) ruling the sunnies land. My favorite men sunglasses are definitely the ones from Warby Parker. Although the boho-intellectual-cool-writer-artist type of sunwear is IN, wayfarer styles and even aviators can happily live side by side with the former. Brown sunnies fit any skin tone and go with any outfit. HATS. Maintaining the bohemian artist on holiday look, mates… you have to have a hat. All brown shades of fedoras are IN, so have a blast trying them on, until you fall for one, and then wear it over, and over, and over, and over again. And then one more time. With anything. Anywhere.

Is it a scarf? Nooo. Is it a robe? Nooo. Is it a cape? Well, no, but it could be. As the title betrays we are talking about one of summer’s most coveted trends – the KIMONO – yet I can’t shake the cape comparison, and with it the superpower this beautiful kimono might hold.

Just think about it, what if, when wearing one we’d all turn into fucking superheroes, who can wear 20 inch heels, pink hair, drink with no hangovers, sing better than Beyonce, ride motorcycles through the desert and have great hair. Huh? Not too bad innit? But even if all this is a tiny bit too stretched from reality, we could still give the kimono a go. It is after all pretty fabulous, so a hidden power to it, may not be such a far off truth. Humor me here for a second: regardless of its cut (and they come in millions of them) it always ads just the right amount of razzmatazz to a look, to the point that even if you’re at home, in your worst shorts or PJs, and throw one on, you’ll end up looking fab while having coffee. And the only downside to that is that there’d be no one there to see you. Thank God for Instagram and Twitter, right? It is after all Social Media and blogs that have turned this spring summer cover up into a uniform. One out of 3 photos on Pintrest for example is of a fashionista in her boho uniform: cutoffs, bustier and a floral print kimono. Which is great, don’t get me wrong, but when you end up looking like millions of other people… you might wanna address the side of your brain that deals with imagination. Or perhaps the lack of looks one kimono holds is its only downside.

Of course one can wear this cover up over anything, even over jeans or a posh skirt, if the hobo demented look is the one you’re going for. And even THAT is OK, cause it looks soooo great. In a very nonchalant kinda way. So the idiot in me, is left with the above lack-of-imagination-look – the Coachella slash music festival fashion combos I was telling you about, which is absolutely great for summer. This is fashion – before something becomes a trend no one does it, afterwards everyone with or without a penchant for style is seen draped in that shit, cause we all know it’s only gonna last so long. So why the hell not enjoy it… we’re doing other trends for years, right? This one is as new to street style as they get. Hey, I tried playing the Devil’s advocate on the kimono, but I can’t do it. I am loving this cover up, with all its copy paste looks and redundancy, it’s still fresh somehow. It’s incredibly feminine, very sexy, but not in your face (unless you wanna make it so), it’s boho chic, it’s Alexa Chung meets Vanessa Hudgens cool.

And the styles kimonos come in… OMG! like a trillion of them: long, short, midi, prints, fringes, silky, oversized… But the best ones are the shorter ones in floral printed styles. <3 How to wear kimonos and look boho-chic? Just throw one on. They do look best with shorts, short dresses or skirts, bustier tops, tank tops, over swimsuits, and over anything you’d actually rock on a hot summer night or day. Wear it as a silky jacket or as a rocknroll sophisticated cover up. And wear it for the jazz of it, not cause you’re cold or you’d look better in it, cause although the kimono is one great piece, it does nothing for us. Shoulders looks slouchier, slim figures look skinnier. It just ads a bit of color, and sophistication to an otherwise boring style. I’ll take that, thank you.

It can be bohemian, western cool, St. Tropez glamorous, sexy housewife effortless, gypsy knock out beauty, rockroll, feminine, grungy, posh hobo – incredibly trendy can’t-separate-from-it favorite summer piece.

HATS: everyone loves them, few wear them. I wonder why? This, we need to talk about, like how come an item that’s been around since way before fashion was on a roll, is still IN and making quite the waves? Is it though? Making quite the waves. Or are we just so infatuated with this once-upon-a-time-look (be it Middle Ages or 1970s) that we immediately rush on like crazed sartorials to slap the tag TREND on it? Kinda presumptuous isn’t it?

So are hats. A little bit. With the major risk of getting face slapped over here, I will say, that when it comes to hats, although I adore SOME of the looks I’m not totally hooked on this trend. For example I’ve never worn a hat in town, the only public place I’ve donned one was on holiday in Greece I think. Then there was this one weekend at a barbecue party with friends (don’t count as public place though), and a photo session. On all these 3 occasions I’ve worn a panama hat, a fedora, and a cowboy style.

And it just so happens that it’s only these 3 specific styles I find great. No. I actually find fucking amazing, if done properly. If not… just lose the fucking hat altogether. So then, you’re entitled to ask and remain in shock upon finding out the answer to this: ‘Do you not fancy floppy hats?’ GOD, NO. I like their 70s diva vibe, how they look on the runway, but that’s it. And don’t even get me started on those royal hats, which, with no offence to the Royal fashion (which in itself sucks as well) are utterly ridiculous. And so is the concept of what they stand for, superior social stats and class division, ultimate elegance and refinement. Okay we get it, you’re rich, but style my friends… you ain’t got. The whole world begs to differ with me, or so I presume, but… that’s just what I think.

And it probably is this very idea of what hats once stood for that make me dislike them. The pretentiousness of it all, the image of preposterous dames all bundled and buttoned up at boiling degrees cause you know… they have to flaunt their properness. Ugh.

But… as my silly unstable mind usually goes… on the other hand a woman who knows how to wear a hat is fucking amazing. Given that the hat is a fedora, panama or cowboy. I’m still sticking by my 3 styles, sorry about that. What makes me totally love these 3 hats, as opposed to all the other styles, is what they ooze when rocked with cool outfits and great attitude. Having said that I love a cowboy and panama hat for the beach. They both look great with casual, effortless outfits like: jeans, cutoffs, tank tops, tees, jackets, all-denim styles, leather, boho-chic dresses… you get the idea. Fedora hats, on the other hand are the epiphany of cool je m’en fiche style, in any season, and paired with almost any outfits, sans red carpet gowns, or cocktail dresses par example. Other than that they’re the perfect piece to hide under from the sun or the rain, to mask a bad hair day, to compliment a rockroll look, or just to help you channel your inner French gal persona, your rocker chick alter ego, or Johnny Depp’s gypsy soul-mate. The one tip in my book I always follow is to always give it to the shoes and accessories to make an outfit anywhere-appropriate. Of course, we’ve got the heat to beat, which is our best friend in the weekends and worst enemy in the weekdays. Can’t we wear flip-flips to work and cropped tank-tops? Err no.

1. WORK WEAR. To make your outfit more fun for office pair a statement skirt or trouser with a basic top. Wear bold lips and an uber cool office bag. Structured and oversized. Silky or chiffon button down blouses look fantastic for the office and the best part is that they make an outfit look sophisticated and professional no matter what you pair it with. 2. AFTER WORK HAPPENINGS. If office hours stretch loooong in the evening at some cocktail party, dinner date, or just an importante meeting where you need to look put together with a twist, but don’t have time to go home and change, then your best options are probably a great summer dress & heels. Or a statement skirt and a great shirt. Long flowy trousers paired with a silk tank-top, or a monochromatic look are again 2 great options. You can pull your hair back, wear a red lipstick and a smile.  3. SIMPLE & CHIC. For those weekdays when you’re not in the office and you’re one lucky gal for having a day off, or a whole afternoon to not care about work, but don’t feel like up-ing your game at all, jeans are always the best idea. Basics always save the day, and a shorter skirt or dress is the perfect little piece to take out. On hot summer weekends shorts, cutoffs, and great tops with gladiator sandals or sneakers are a fantastic option. If you’re planning a Sunday brunch with the girls, a stroll around town, or late morning coffee with your friends a midi skirt and tucked in tee, or a crop top are the best idea ever.  4. SOPHISTICATED WEEKEND. We all know you’re one hot lady who’s always got plans for the weekend, from posh dinners out, to parties, book-launches, art exhibitions. And we all know you love fashion, and just can’t wait to wear your sophisticated outfits that have been waiting since Monday in your closet. Now’s the time. Fabulous shoes, great clutches and bags, mini skirts and dresses, cut outs in anything, see-thorough fabrics, sparkles, crop tops and neon shades, bustiers and sky high heels, rocker boots and leather – ALL these are IN come Friday night, all throughout Sundays. We all get those days when we’re like ‘Pffff Fashion, leave me alone. When my girl friends started wearing their hair in braids and endless flowy waves, and my guy friends were stealing my rings, cause you know they had to have a coat of arms themselves – it hit me. Not only are we obsessed with Game of Thrones and its phenomenon, to the point of using phrases that bare tons of meaning for GOT-addicts (errr… ‘Valar Morghulis‘ for when you think you’re cool, or ‘Hodor’ for when you’re testing the funny-power of just 1 word, or for when you’d rather say less than more), but also we’re unconsciously borrowing from its style, trends and sartorial choices.

Does that mean all men will look photoshoped? Steamy rugged, with a code of honor as well as coat of arms? And women will rule the world, tame dragons and look like ancient sexy beautiful Goddesses doing so? Doh. What this whole fantasy brilliantly enticing world and its characters have taught us is that it’s OK to be bold, strong and sexy. Deep cleavages down to belly buttons, bare backs and naked everythings for that matter are generic to us already. So is violence. Death. Cruelty. Forbidden love. Sex. Duty or honor. While all these are words and images that would otherwise shock and give birth to waves of appalment, truth is, this show broke a few boundaries. It killed a few taboos and no one died from it. Well, except a Stark each season.

So people hopefully we’ve learned to stay strong and empowered, to be brave when we’re chicken shit scared and above all to always look our best, girls. It’s OK to wanna look beautiful, feminine, incredibly sensual and seductive, and always stay fearless and strong. 

The 5 things we’ve learned from Game of Thrones. Fashion wise.

GIRLS. 

1. Maxi Dresses & Greek Style Gowns in expensive fluid fabrics, with opulent embroideries are IN. From those sultry whores to Cersei or Marjorie every single woman in Game of Thrones has a dress to die for. The designers over at Rodarte grasped our soft spot for all-medieval things with a touch of toughness meets beauty and delivered a collection of dresses that even Jon Snow would kill for.

With the last episode running on Sunday and a whole year to wait until we see Khaleesi and the girls again, I think we’ll be living the futuristic medieval life in fashion through fluid dresses, leather and jewelry insertions, high slits, low cuts & decolletages. 2. Braided Hairstyles. Not a new thing for our boring present times, I must admit the gals over in King’s Landing and every other corner of the fantasy world have taken braids to another level. Intricate, messy, original, incredibly long – this hairstyle seems to be the perfect compliment to any look, regardless of its high maintenance or not. It’s un-fussy and looks great. The braids alternative is long flowy locks running down backs and shoulders like waves. Middle parted long luscious hair with maybe a few strains pinned at the back – is their other go to hairstyle. 3. Jewelry wise: antique, opulent, massive as well as fine pieces in mostly gold are seen on both girls and boys’ fingers, necks, ears, hands. We’ve been obsessed with bling for the past years, so a continuation of our addiction seems a fair assumption to make. Maybe invest in more antique imperial baroque style like jewelry. 4. High Boots & Gladiator Sandals. Not a new thing either, I would bet my money they’ll stick around some more, with a major twist towards warrior more powerful styles. A lot of black. A lot of shoegasms in both summer (high sexy gladiator sandals) as well as winter (thigh high boots). 5. The BDSM insinuation is sartorially present in Game of Thrones, and our obvious taste for all forbidden or taboo things is only just been aroused. Don’t give me the high eyebrow here, Jason Wu has sent models down the runway in harnesses and S&M inspired attire. Then, leather belts, harnesses, masks, cuffs and seductive fur were seen on the coolest trendiest people out there. BOYS

1. Jewelry is one hot trend this season, and I kid you not when I say I’ve witnessed men loving it, and most importantly rocking this shit. Massive rings like the kind that would make any wearer feel like one mother fucker Emperor are my friends’ and other males’ #1 obsession. Personally I love it. 2. The Rugged style was invented by the men in Game of Thrones. It probably was a casting must-look, which we could only be thankful for, cause really it took what, a few months for it to stick in real life. Sans l’odeur of those times, of course, but with the now mantra: I have a beard, I do not fear. 3. Leather all over. Or just a little bit. This is not very hard to stick, as leather jackets are already on your best mastered list, so while you’re there do leather gloves, big leather belts, harnesses, tops, long coats… you get the picture. Medieval style gone 2015. 
4. Fur. Hold up. Before you’re all no, no, no on me, think Kanye West. And a few other fashionistos. True… you might wanna kinda sorta need to be famous, infamous, or a rapper to rock this shit, but… if the Starks did it, I think you’re safe to give it a try, and if it’s not gonna work, just blame it on Game of Thrones. 5. There’s no denying that summer is really the best season ever, yet it’s got a major downside that only fashion lovers understand: it’s affecting our style-game! We cannot layer properly. And that, my friend… sucks. But courtesy of our fabulousness (and designers collections too) VESTS are making quite the style splash this summer, and today’s post is just about that.

Are they a trend arrived at our sartorial aid?

Layering is one of fashion’s biggest blessings and the most coveted gimmick ever to make a look more eclectic, versatile, to cover up without looking all bundled up, to make use of personal style, to get creative, to stay warm, but strip off when needed as well… Do I need to go on? In summer though, less is best, for heat survival reasons rather than up-ing our sexy game, and all outfits tend to turn into a uniform made up of 1 common trend: short sleeves or no sleeves. Bottoms, we can manage in longer versions, but seriously how many demented fashionistas have you seen in long sleeves at boiling degrees? Exactly. With this predicament on our hands, how can we layer? With VESTS – the jackets with no sleeves. 

2014 Vests come in so many styles, staying true to the ALL is IN thing in fashion right now: long, short, oversized, fitted, denim, leather, silk, lace, smart, grungy, trendy, printed, patterned, with or without pockets, collars… and so on, and on, and on. What’s great about them is that depending on their cut and style of course, they’re actually appropriate for ANY occasion, especially office-wear. VESTS FOR OFFICE. It’s a sleeveless blazer people. A blessing on hot sweaty days, when you’d rather just go to work in a teeny tiny thin strapped cropped top and high waisted pencil skirt. Well, now you can! With a long blazer on top, buttoned up when common sense requires and taken off when office hours end. Not to mention the fact that an office style vest goes a long way, not just for office, not just for summer, not just for properness reasons. It’s stylish, professional & very chic. CASUAL TRENDY VESTS for everyday, for weekends, for festivals, for sophistication-needed-asap-moments, or for cover up reasons. We all have those days when as fab as we all look, we think we look like crap, and need a save-me-cape to hide under. This is what a VEST can actually do. For me at least. It covers exposed skin that I just don’t feel like showing the world one day maybe  (stomach, back, shoulders). The casual & more sophisticated styles come in leather (LOVE!), denim, lace (think Coachella style), prints, embroidery, with the mention that they too can go to your office, if you layer it all properly. Think white shirts and button-down blouses underneath a leather vest par example. ;) More VEST for summer inspiration… Bottom line is, vests are the perfect style trick to make an outfit less boring, and the go-to style secret when you just can’t be bothered to dress cool, but would still like to own your shit fashion wise. When a friend of mine once asked me ‘I’d really get a pair of bold animal print leggings, but what would I wear them with?’, and I told her: ‘Well, animal print looks amazing mixed with animal print, and also black and white stripes.’, you do not wanna know the look she gave me. Bitch, you high on something?/Oh, I don’t know how you work in fashion, but, you ain’t working my fashion – kinda look.

And really, can we blame the ignoramus? Up until a few years ago mixing prints was a massive faux-pas, as were unmatched shoes-bags-belts a century ago, and people really get stuck on what’s comfortable and easy to do, rather than explore a domain – fashion – that they really do find unappealing. Sure, I could have told my friend to wear them with something black, white, or denim, but what happens is that the moment someone finds out we work in fashion, this sudden stupid pressure and idiotic feeling kicks in that we have to have a shtick or something. It’s like when you keep ranting about favorite books, films, music and then someone bluntly asks you, so what’s your top 3 favorite TV shows? WTF. You go blank. Stuck in the equivalent of a writer’s block. By now though, pretty much every human being who’s wearing clothes knows that (1) rules are obsolete to a certain extent, and (2) mixing prints is a definite DO in fashion. More so, it’s the embodiment of sophistication, ultimate luxe, and trendy coolness. Mixed-prints looks translate into fabulous styles and outfits in any season, for any occasion. Especially office wear. How so, you might ask?

Instead of wearing a two-toned or one toned outfit to work, putting on mixed prints in a pencil skirt and blouse is an instant style re-make, making you appear so very chic, fun, yet professional still. Nevertheless… mixing prints, as chaotic as it may come across is one trend that actually comes with a tiny guide, in order to nail this look to its very core. 

7 TIPS To Master The Mixed Prints Looks

1. Mix & match prints according to colors and textures, not the prints themselves. It’s more about the overall image and strong visuals than getting it right, so forget about everything you knew in fashion, and think about your outfit as a dazzling crazy puzzle that needs to be put together. A painting that makes no sense, if you will, but looks fabulous. 2. Different textures, BUT mix on the same color palette (different patterns, of slightly same colors). 3. If you’re wearing similar textures you can do different colors and prints, those bold bold styles at Fashion Week for example (skirt in one print, blouse in another and jacket in a totally different one). 4. Stripes – are the easiest way to mix prints, as they’re the basic definition of a print, which makes them super versatile against any other. They look amazing mixed with:

• florals
• tropicals
• dots
• different stripes
• checks
• graphic
• animal print

5. Florals - are definitely the most common print in summer, but don’t do it like everyone else, paired with white pants, or black top, or denim. Instead have fun with it. They look great mixed with:

• other floral prints (remember: same colors, or same textures)
• tropical (tricky, but do-able if they’re in the same color palette)
• stripes
• graphic
• black & white
• dots

6. Animal print. Oh, the infamous animal print some love and some hate, is actually a pretty basic print that goes great with most of its siblings:

• florals (this is pretty tricky, but I’ve seen it done and it’s worth tones of tries until you get it right)

7. Checks – though a lot more worn in the cold season, they have that classic vibe to them, which can easily turn into glam grunge, and paired with a different pattern they look very eclectic.

If you’re hesitant, the only tip you have to remember is to HAVE FUN with them, and if the overall outfit looks great, wear it! It’s about making a very sophisticated fun & bold fashion statement. And once you get the hang of it, you can forget all the above rules and do your own thing.  ;)

If clothes had a Beauty Pageant Contest my money would be on DRESSES. Just think about it:  are they not the one piece we always go to when we wanna be headache-free style wise? Unlike jeans or tops or skirts, which all require a pairing item, dresses… you just need to slap ‘em a pair of shoes and a bag, and finito! Also, they go in any season and for any occasion.

But thank God there is no such contest, otherwise we’d probably end up in marshmallows, cupcakes and candies, and I’m not talking sweets, but dresses so sweet it’d either make normal people throw up, or 40 year old women who’d wear them look well… ridiculous. And that’s a very nice way of putting it. Courtesy of the times we’re in though, everything can live side by side with anything, and when it comes to dresses, this summer screams so many styles it’s a blessing. It’s like the fashion gurus have finally decided to stop niche-ing and just give the women what they want and are comfortable with. You’re a sexy perfect Goddess with flawless armpit long legs, great bum and… ? I’ll just stop here. We get the picture.  Then, you can of course flaunt your stuff in any dress style, micro-minis included. If however, you’re more on the human teeny tiny flawed side, (1) YOU ARE NOT ALONE, and (2) perfection is boring, so find the dress you like and rock the shit out of it cause you’ll probably look bloody amazing. The key is to find a style that fits your body type and enhance that part of your body you’re totally in love with.

1. MAXI DRESSES. The perfect style for all girls with all styles, this dress we must own and wear all throughout summer on: holidays, casual outfits, evenings… It’s so body forgiving and soooooo stylish it’s definitely a must. Also, incredibly versatile as it comes in so many colors, prints, cuts it’s a heaven.  2. MIDI DRESSES. These beauties have made a huge comeback lately and I think it has to do with how versatile they are. From fitted styles to A-line cuts, to retro, to classic these dresses are the perfect office attire, cocktail dress, or even casual outfits (think jersey textures that models-off duty always wear in summer with boots or flat sandals). More about midi here. 3. BEACH DRESSES. No summer is EVER complete without these, and the more color wild, printed, white, and short they are the better. I love these in thin straps, neon crazy shades, cutouts, with a bit of a frill to them. AND some of these styles can easilty translate to casual daytime, and even cocktails on the beach for evening. 4. FLIRTY DRESSES. Think chiffon and silky fabrics in all the possible cuts, colors, prints and styles. These dresses have a very girly vibe to them with a twist of hotness or boho-chicness, and are perfect for summer dinners, parties, and casual day times around town.  5. WHITE DRESSES. Doh. Summer’s most coveted style the white dress is the ultimate beauty when it comes to summer dresses. It’s crisp, fresh, classy, feminine, sexy, and enhances your sunkissed skin like nothing else. It goes with anything (yes even boots and leather jackets), and can go anywhere as well.6. BLACK DRESSES. For the past year or so, black has won its spotlight into summer fashion, and I LOVE that. No dress will ever look as great as a black one, in my book. From mini flirty styles, to cami dresses, to maxi, midi or jersey styles for a very sporty casual hot afternoon – every girl out there needs an LBD for summer. 7. FLORAL DRESSES. The definition of summer lies in these colored flowers-exploded-on-your-dress style. They’re great for work, for laid back feminine looks, for weekends, for events… It’s usually the go-to piece of summer that every girls should own.8. MINI DRESSES. The one version of the dress that will never be out of fashion cause we all love showing a bit of hotness every now and then. This summer it’s all about the men-borrowed-look translated into dresses: oversized button down shirts, left loose or tied with a belt around the waist. They look so chic and professional, but also effortless and incredibly summer’ish. 11. GOING OUT DRESSES. Do not kill me for what I’m about to say right now but… I don’t really believe in going out dresses per se. I mean I always think any dress is perfect for going out, especially one you’d not normally wear on an evening occasion, IF you accessorize it appropriately, wear stilettos and have great hair and makeup on. Of course unels you’re going to weddings, cocktails or black tie events. Then you need a proper gown or cocktail dress. But on summer nights when you’re planning drinks and dinner with friends, or going dancing… the best choice I’d say is one of the dresses above worn with a twist. You’ll look way more sophisticated and effortless. 12. THIN STRAP DRESSES. The 90s are back so… stop acting surprised. And these dresses are so great for summer it’s crazy. What’s your go-to summer dress style?

No, no, no, no, fashion does not want us to turn our back on it, but it does want to see our BACKS exposed, sexy, and incredibly enticing. This has got to be the steamiest fashion trend in a looong time. Forget boobs, and bums, and all of that. The subtle and mysterious game of concealing and covering up is way more sensual, not to mention sophisticated. I gotta give it to the fashion bitch, she nailed it with this one. She’s now all grown up and throws our way trends and looks that are the opposite of in-your-face BUT do more for us wearers and for the fashion ignoramus watchers, than any super thought out outfits and fitted to the millimeter clothing item. Back in the day, circa 2000 it was all about showing your tits, and painted-on low waisted jeans. Before that it must have been another body part worshiping by maximum exposure. Today… I’m not saying we’re all prude, au contraire, but we’ve learned to master style and mix Tom-boy’ish looks with hot heels, and flirty mini dresses with sneakers. Fitted with oversized. We’re balancing it all out, we’re princesses one day and bad boys the next. That I find quite liberating. And I think this BARE BACK trend is just fashion’s way of telling us it’s time to let imagination run loose and get creative with outfits. So we’re experiencing a summer of BACK bows, chains, jewelry, straps, exposed bras, tattoos, spines, and what not – through the most exquisite tops or dresses that have back cut-outs & cheeky back designs to show our backs in all their glory. It kinda drives us to do all sorts of DYI projects on old tops and tees and cut them in weird funky shapes to show it all or just a glimpse of our backs as we turn and walk away.

You can be covered up from head to toe in the front, but the moment you turn around BAM! the open back will cause a frenzy as it’s quite the fashion statement, without going over the top. ;) The best part about this trend is that we can choose how much of it we do it – a little bit, or open back all the way. We can rock it even at work. Of course no-one would know, as you’d be wearing a blazer on top, but you’d know it… and that’s enough to make you feel empowered. Cause I thing this feeling goes hand in hand with this trend. The power of a beautiful naked back as you turn and walk away from a conversation or situation that was either good or bad… is one style scenario that’s in your favor.

That’s the thing about trends, once it sticks, it gets all over the place to the point of redundancy even. Is this the case of SHORT HAIRSTYLES? Do all women chop off their mermaid tresses like demented fashion victims, cause that JLaw woman did, and then Hailee Steinfeld, and then God knows who, and before them it was Rihanna, then Miley and so on? And now we have a world of cute little pixies? Does the chopping off of our locks have more to do with being fashionably cool, or does it have a hidden subliminal meaning & message behind. Aka: us girls feeling more empowered, liberated, strong – cause you know the shorter the hair, the tinier the problems. Of styling I mean.

Or are we constantly getting over something, or somebody? (and radically change our manes to get our lives back.)

Whatever the case… my money’s on the TREND thing, with a bit of liberation and getting over an idiot. It’s THE thing in town everyone’s doing, like the perm in the 80s. The short cut looks fantastic and it’s reversible. In months, and months, true. But hair grows back, and if patience is not your thing, there’s always the extensions solution. Were it not for a beautiful celeb who first cut her long hair, and designers or stylists recommending this sexy androgynous look to everyone under the sun – it wouldn’t have been a trend, and women with long hair and no intention of chopping, would have left their locks intact, and just occasionally dream about cutting it all off whenever Charlize Theron or Halle Berry crossed their screens or minds. Truth is gals… it takes a looooot of balls to go from long hair to short hair, hence the transformation process. A lot of questions come up, like: Does short hair fit any face shape? YES - say all the stylists, it’s just a matter of finding the right short cut for your face shape, and finding the features you want to enhance and focus on those (great eyes and eyebrows, cheek-bones, lips, neck). Short hair is not just one hairstyle. Short hair can be chopped, slicked back, with bangs, asymmetrical, curly, straight, wavy, side or back shaved, head shaved, pixie cut, and most of the times… it requires more styling, than long hair. Of course I’m biased here, cause I’ve had my hair short ages ago (and it had to do less with the trend – which was non existent back then – and more with an idiot and a transformation). But it worked. And I loved it. It wasn’t pixie short, just chopped off in layers up to my cheeks and jawline. It looked fabulous when it was styled, but otherwise, let’s just say I would not have gone out to take the trash even. So… yes I learned to style it in order to love it. And ever since I’ve never made a dramatic change, although the pixie cut is on my mind for at least 1 year. Just don’t have the balls for it, and will probably not have them for sometime. Women with short hair have a certain sex appeal to them, they look powerful and very confident in a very feminine cheeky way. Ever since I discovered Micah Ginelli, the blogger who cut her endless exquisite hair that was down to her bum, first by shaving it off on one side, and then by shaving it all off – I’m in love with short hair. No, actually I’m obsessed. She’s one woman who looks so much better with a short cut. And I love her pixie do, cause it’s pretty versatile, it can be styled with a side clean part, with bangs, sleeked back, messy… and fits her style and look so much better. Short hair can look anyway you wish, from professional to wild, to chic or sophisticated – but do all these things translate beyond our heads and minds, or is the SHORT HAIR TREND loved only by women?

What do men think about girls with short hair? 

Is long hair still the utmost definition of femininity? When you say ‘woman’ or ‘girl’ does long hair inevitably come with this image?

For the fun and curiosity of it I’ve asked around a few men what they think of women with short hair. Except for one boy who confessed to be instantly sold on the short hair look in women, and would with no hesitation pick a short haired girl over a long haired one, the rest were in between. Why would this lad pick chopped off hair: for what it stands. ”The girl’s probably free spirited, cool and fun to be around, but very confident, strong and sexy.” There you have it.

Another boy said he’s totally on the long hair team, and confessed he’s an idiot to say it but women are supposed to have long hair.

Well I guess it’s to each their own. It’s not like we don’t have preferences when it comes to how our men look, right?

OR the ‘Models’ Off-Duty Summer Uniform’, if you will, cause (1) cutoffs look so much better on models, doh,  (3) they’re super easy to style, and (3) they rock the shit out of this look since… well forever, hence turning it into a massive summer trend.

Although, between me and you – shhhhh!-  (and the rest of the world) cutoffs in winter or autumn? Dayum. With black sheer or opaque tights. Aha. But, that’s another talk that we actually already had here. And also… er cutoffs were like the shorts of my childhood, because I was obsessed with cutting clothes and saw no reason as to why I should not alter some clothing item according to my mood one day. It drove my mom insane, and to be honest here, except for these cutoffs I’d make – the rest of it was well… unwearable. But, you see… I knew the importance of sacrificing something for the sake of art. As if. Seriously, I am the least designer’ish person ever. Good thing I had confidence as a kid though, and cut the shit out of all the clothes that bored me every. single. day. Thank God my designer impulses died right then and there.

Getting back to today’s agenda, I feel like everything concerning cutoffs has already been said before, much better and more eloquent than I’d ever say it, yet… we can never have too much photo inspiration, either because we’re having a fashionista’s block (not always, only every freaking morning!), or because let’s admit it… we’ve all got a case of voyeurism. So how do the cool kids of fashion wear their cutoffs and do they DIY? Much like their jeans-siblings, denim cutoffs are a blessing cause they go with anything. They look exquisite though, paired with something white. Basically it’s so much up to the look you want to nail, to where you’re going, and you’re personal style – that saying that cutoffs only go with this or that would be really stupid. Whatever floats your boat here is perfectly fine. Almost. I am not too keen on super tight cutoffs + tight top + heels. But even this look could turn out fabulous if done right.

MINIMAL LOOK/or the model off-duty style: basic tee + cutoffs + ankle boots/sneakers/flat sandals. BEACH LOOK: the easiest way, no tips and tricks necessary, just pull them over your bikini. ;) CHIC & SOPHISTICATED: cutoffs + white silk shirts with a half-tuck, or basic tee + blazer or leather jacket + any shoe style. This can be a perfect look for casual day time or even dinner out with friends. Let’s see more pics to get inspired! When it comes to cutoffs the question is probably not how to wear them (just pair them with anything in your closet), but which style to wear: washed out, dark, light, longer, super short, ripped, tight, loose/boyfriend styles, pockets out or in? What fashion is experiencing for quite some time now is a very mellow mood. Everything is more laid back, taken less seriously. Four out of 5 trends are a SPORTY style deviation, and what’s shocking is not even their over-night-growth, but how we’ve just suddenly decided to say ‘to hell with stuck up office wear’ and don relaxed outfits to work. Years ago, wearing sneakers to work was a major faux pas. Much like baseball caps, or plain tees. Today, if you channel your inner fashionista and dress these up a little bit (and by this I mean a slight style effort to not look like you’re off to the gym), you’re most likely to end up on best dressed lists. Of friends, colleagues or just your own, but you get the idea. In all this sporty luxe, laid back casual borderline sport attire – MESH – which once was a total bleah, is making a massive entrance. It already did actually at Fashion Week SS2014 when all designers gave us shows packed with athletic inspired clothes, mesh reigning over them.

So what is MESH exactly? It’s that once-horrendous material made of a network of wire, once associated with the 80s, strippers and the ultimate kistch. Well… my friends, today, MESH could not be further from this once-horrible trend. In 2014 Summer mesh is sporty luxe, it’s relaxed, it’s grungy, it’s glam, it’s cool, it’s urban, it’s anything you want it to be. See-through mesh tops or dresses for the more daring ones, can be sported with retro lingerie, as a way to spice up your look, yet not go too naked out there. Besides the sheer tops trend is huge, so while you’re at it nail both looks: cool bra or bustier from underneath a sheer MESH top. Mesh skirts are amazing! And I’m not saying it cause I just found a vintage mesh dress that is this week’s DIY project to turn into a pencil mesh skirt and wear with black tight shorts underneath (don’t know where… but… that’s not an issue now), but because they look so trendy in a very edgy kinda way. If showing too much is something you’re not comfortable with – do not despair. Mesh comes in jackets, in sleeves, in just stripes of fabric here and there on a pair of trousers, a dress, skirt or top, just enough to tease the eyes and create the cool trend in an instant. Best mesh looks come in white and black and look great paired with massive accessories. For a total sporty style (not-gym though) wear mesh anything with sneakers and shorts, OR for an edgy sporty luxe, or even athletic sophistication pair a mesh skirt with hot heels par example. Details like bold lips and nails also add chicness and femininity to this trend. Let’s have a look at some street style pics…  So… what do you think ladies: YES or NO?

My relationship with lace over the years has been clear and blunt: I hated it. Up until last year, when faced with the major life event of being a bride – I had to (among other things) cross the dress off the list. I knew what I didn’t want: no princess or ball gown cuts for me, and no lace. Cause you see I always found it so pretentious and granny glamorous borderline decadent, in that Mrs. Havisham kinda way.

Yet, when going to shop for le robe of the big day, I got bitch slapped by the very clear and simple reality: the lace dresses were light years away from their un-laced siblings. They were fabulous.

And that’s how I found my dress, and how my LACE love affair begun. The TREND factor in this LACE thing is not even an issue, cause really lace has been IN fashion (more or less as a front-lady) ever since well… humans got ashamed of parading naked and started covering up with types of clothes other than animal furs or Tarzan inspired attire. It was actually a massive fashion hit all through those past decades. Even ‘Game of Thrones’ heroines are wearing it. Yes, I know it’s fiction, but… it doesn’t make the fashion thing less real, does it?

Evening dresses, cocktail attire, autumn and winter collections have more penchant for LACE, yet have you noticed how this summer, lace is everywhere? White lace tops, dresses and shorts are the feminine dainty pieces all women and girls resort to in 2014 summer for a bit of romantic chicness to their look. Black lace might be a bit too harsh or heavy for some women in summer, but I love it. Doh. It’s so incredibly sexy, decadent, and very very seductive that I cannot believe I used to hate this fabric a year ago. I guess what I used to hate about the lace look was the close minded trait I thought it bared: way too girly and too feminine sans le edge. And I don’t do that. But little did I know, cause LACE can be so versatile really. 2014 Summer shows us how lace can go to the office in a very proper feminine knee-length dress, to summer festivals in crop white lace tops, or lace shorts or skirts, to cocktails in lace pencil skirts, to events when lace anything can be paired with men inspired items: tees, sweatshirts, sneakers, statement jewelry and what not. Living in the age of all is IN gives us this fantastic fashion premise of mixing and matching it all, to broaden our creativity and push those once stiff style boundaries and make the craziest combos work. And that I love.

To cut a long story short let’s have a look at how street style peeps are doing lace and get some inspo: Ah… not to mention the fact that wearing lace guarantees nailing at least 2 other trends: exposed lingerie (if you’re up for the challenge) and sheer anything for extra hotness.

So let’s comment away on LACE in summer: YES or NO?

The PLEATED SKIRT ladies. A very subtle trend we seem to take for granted, pleats are trying to break through in fashion for a couple of years. The funny thing though is that they were never out of fashion to begin with, yet they were never a major trend for the past 2 years. Like crop tops for example. Or the grunge thing.

Why?

Are they boring? Been there done that? Too prude? Too meh. News flash: so is anything and everything today, even in fashion, hence the rise of personal style and thinning of all sorts of must-do-boundaries. Perhaps it’s just me who thinks the pleats are a bit obscure in all this sea of trends, cause today, I heard a stylist praise them like shit (hence my idea for this post). So… continuing my pleats mission today I give you pleats in all their glory, and why we kinda have to love them.

They’re super feminine, the way they dance in the wind, how fluid and playful they get. They look great for all occasions from office to evenings. Think 70s diva in a long fluid pleated dress with a high slit. sigh.

The staple quality of a pleated skirt is unquestionable, with the midi style being quite a trend this summer, especially in whites, nudes, pinks & pastels. Their elegance makes them office appropriate, but also easy to pair with more fun tops for relaxed weekends or fancy styles for evening. Short pleated skirts were a massive hit in the 90s, and they’re still holding on to their girly flirty cheeky vibe today, for those who wanna wear them. Maxi pleated skirts are fabulous for daytime and evening as well, and can translate to all styles: grungy (boots and leather jacket), beachy boho chic (sandals, bustiers, beach hair), or classy for evening. How to style pleated skirts: they look best with tank tops and graphic tees or even basic t-shirts to make it all about the skirt. Tucked in shirts, or knot-tied at the waist also look fantastic especially in denim. Bustiers & crop tops are my fave tops to pair with a pleated skirt. When wearing a midi pleated skirt usually the shoes give the tone of the outfit: sneakers, thick soled oxfords, slip ons will make the outfit more trendy, slightly grungy chic. Chunky 70s style heels give it an edgy feminine touch, stilettos are uber hot, flats are simple and chic, boots are rock vibed and so on… you get the idea.

Growing up, whether interested in fashion or not, we’ve all been slightly aware of a few style faux pas such as: never wear track pants with heels, don’t go to work in sporty tees, cover up your neon cool athletic bra top when you leave the house. Well… all this is obsolete as fashion has pulled a 180 on us all for the past year and shoved the ATHLETIC TREND down our throats, urging us to dress sporty cool & athletic luxe in 2014 summer.

That the sartorial world has become more laid back is no news anymore. Hell it’s become hectic and manic, impossible to make up its mind on what to keep and what to ditch, so all trends pretty much have comebacks. The style to all though, is gym inspired. We’re all looking like we’ve just left the tennis courts, swim-pools, golf tournaments, marathons, and forgot to take off items of the sporty attire. More so we’ve bothered to put heels on, red lipsticks and bling yet not renounce on the oversized tops, short shorts, mesh, track pants, and bright sneakers. 2014 Summer fashion is a beautiful reinvention of all that is casual, athletic and laid back, keeping the vibe of the gym/sporty clothes, but using fabrics and mixtures that are more eclectic, clashing trends, and styles to allow more versatility. Varsity jackets became posh. Track suits are made of leather. Worn with heels even. Oversized jersey tees have glitter and sparkles on them, and can be donned as dresses with heeled sandals. Bright colored bra tops are out on the streets from underneath office blazers. One piece swimsuits are worn as bare back tops (see Kim Kardashian).

Are there no more limits?

I would think not. Not when it’s OK to wear bright sneakers to work, with summer dresses, pencil skirts, silky tops, blazers and posh bags. Not when you can pair your business suit with an athletic mesh top, T-shirt or white soled flat shoes that inspire some vintage futuristic new sport out there. Why is this happening? Maybe fashion got bored of the same things. Maybe we got more relaxed, or maybe fashion is more accessible to everyone now, not necessarily in terms of affordability, but in trends to emulate, hence, designers offering the world what they want. We’re all sick of stuck up, polished looks all the time. Super coordinated, proper, lifeless outfits, that are so right they’re wrongs. We all wanna look like we’re rich kids on holiday. Like we’re laid back Aussies who go for a swim after work. I used to hate any sporty inspired outfits a long time ago, now… it’s all I wear somehow, whether it’s classic sporty, or chic, or just an athletic piece in a smart outfit.

And the beauty if it all is that ATHLETIC WEAR has loads of options for all tastes: all black, all white looks, black and white minimalist styles, bright, tropical, neon looks, evening dresses, going out jeans and sporty tops… it’s all a question of whether or not you love it.

If Kate Moss got a nickle for every time  she wore a slip dress in the 90s, and later on throughout her posh life, she’d be a millionaire. Oh wait. She did. And I’m guessing she is. A millionaire. Not necessarily cause of the slip dress, but she did make it famous back in the day. And since everything today has got something to do with the 90s (for the love of GOD!) the slip dress too was bound to make its major comeback.

Do we jump up and down of joy for this trend’s comeback, or sit this one out? Out of all the things fashion has given & taken from us for the past 20 years I swear, the SLIP DRESS is the one thing I was dying to see come back to life again. So pardon my biased opinion on the IT dress of 2014 summer (and the grunge glam uniform of the 90s), but I simply adore it.

There’s just something so sexy and laid back about this dress, the way it resembles a seductive nightie, yet it’s not, the way it feels to the touch, so damn silky and luscious (must be the silk fabric doh.), the way it’s so easy to slip into, hence the name. Doh. I mean… it’s fucking great! Style wise it goes a mile… as it can be worn in a billion ways, equally effortless and hot. It looks great with high heels, the kind that were hot in the 90s as well. Think strappy sandals, or even lace up stilettos. Personally I don’t like how it looks with pumps, and chunky ugly shoes, nor wedges, buuuut… if you love it, why the hell not. Then there’s the basic style: flat sandals, or gladiator flat sandals. Don’t like ballet pumps with this, nor espadrilles. Then there’s the grungy side: motorcycle boots, and combat styles, or even ankle boots. These look incredibly edgy and are a massive style statement, as they clash with this dress’s femininity and simplicity. Add a chunky sweater on or a leather jacket and you’re practically Kate Moss when she was dating Johnny Depp. The blogger look. Or today’s sporty glam relaxed style: the slip dress and sneakers. Or birkenstocks. It’s different, but quite cool. Quirky and fun.One more massive plus the slip dress has is its styles, cuts & designs. Sure, all are basically the same: thin straps, silky or chiffon fabric, cut to the body line, but not fitted, yet while keeping all its traits intact, designers are giving us plenty more. Colors and prints (although… please don’t be rolling your eyes right now, but the black slip dress with the lace trimmings is still the best.). Different lengths, from minis to maxis, all is out there. Cutouts. Fabric insertions, and what not.
