2013 Trends To Keep OR Kill In 2014!

1If after a 2 week blog break one thing is certain, it’s that I’ve missed you all loads! Hope you had a fantastic holiday and tons of fun, while keeping it in style. Or not. God knows a bit of fashion break comes in handy once in a while.

But, all is not lost and here we are, back in the business of fashion ready to kill it this year. Resolutions in sight, and on we go with our pretty little fashion lives. fashionistasSpeaking of resolutions, aside from working more for better results my #1 remains the gym. OK, laugh all you want at my unoriginal 2014 resolution, but if I’m not ready to give up cropped tops (2014 Trend Alert) or uber short shorts this summer… I’d better get my now-fat-stuffed-like-a-pig body to the gym.

Moving on, to start off the year I thought why not talk about the 2013 trends we wanna keep in 2014, or those we just had enough of. I am so curious where you guys stand on some of these, so let’s begin.

1. 90′s Grunge Trend 90s-grunge-stylePfff. I swear this decade can be so redundant these days. I mean, to some extent today, everything is a 90′s something. A reinvention. A forgotten trend, look or dusted style done by God knows who, and just because it’s those 90′s it suddenly looks cool & hip.

Still… with all the eyerolling and effing this 90′s invasion may get, I’m kinda… sorta… not ready to kill it yet.

This massive trend (click here for more on the 90s) has tons of looks. Let’s see which we’ll keep or kill.

#1 Cropped Tops.

cropped-tops-style2014-trend-cropped-topscropped-top-lookcropped-topstreet-style-cropped-topsI say: Keep It! What do you think? (more on this trend here)

#2 Leather.

It IS everywhere. A little bit too much: leggings, trousers, shorts, skirts, dresses, tops. Not to mention the ubiquitous leather jackets that everyone with a penchant for grunge or not (this last bit pisses me off, but let’s not go there) is wearing. all-leather-look-streetstyleleather-shorts-trendleather-trend-2014peplum-leather-jacketstreet-style-leather-dress-lookNot ready to give it up though. Leather anything? Keep it.

#3 Motorcycle Boots.

Uber cool & rockroll, but again a bit too been there done that by now, so why not switch them with combat boots. (more on this dilemma here). I think these will be huge this season. Example: combat unlaced boots with a flirty flowery dress. Perfection. combat-and-moto-boots-stylecombat-boots-street-stylemoto-bootsstreet-style-motorcycle-bootsKill the moto. Keep the Combats.

#4 Military.

Errr. Don’t know about this one. Personally I think I’ve done it enough to last me a few seasons. Will not say no to a great combat jacket, shirt or trousers if I really really really love it, but as far as I’m concerned, I can live without this one.
militaryfuirmilitary-jacket-stylestreet-style-military-trendWhat do you think?

2. Sporty Luxe Trend

Now this one, alongside the 90s grunge was massive and it still is making waves. 2014 SS is all about sporty chic looks, so I think it’ll stick around for one more season. But, what do we keep and what do we kill?

#1 Wedge Sneakers.

Ah. These are everywhere. They used to be so cool back in the day, now everyone is doing them, which makes me wanna say Kill it. Although I do love them. (more here)Milan-Fashion-Week-Street-Stylesneakers-trend (2)bright-sneakerssneakers-trendstreet-style-wedge-sneakers (2)street-style-sneakersstreet-style-kicksI would trade them for bright neon kicks which I think will be massive this year. Keep it!

Converses will always be hip, and those I will never give up, don’t care what the trends say.

#2 Sweatshirts.

kenzo-sweatshirtmusic-band-sweatshirtssporty-luxe-trend-street-sty;esweatshirt-lookAs long as the green Kenzo ones are gone, I’m all for these, especially plain ones mixed with skirts and heels. With that one amendment, I say, Keep it! (more looks here)

#3 Bombers.

Definitely: Keep it! According to the runways, 2014 Spring Summer will be all about the boxy cropped jackets & Bombers in the most appealing textures, colors & prints. (more on this trend here)2014-trend-bomber-jacketbomber-jacketbombers-trend-2014street-style-bomber-jacketIt’s only for a while they reappeared in fashion (reminiscent of STILL those 90s), and they are a great alternative to the leather jacket or blazer.

3. Pointy/Stiletto Nails Trend stiletto-aqua-nails-lookThis one, to me, is a Keeper, but I think a kill it situation for the rest of the world. They’ve been around for sooo long and are not too comfortable for, well, anything. Plus, so many girls out there love shorter nails, that I think this trend will slowly die. Not for me, though. I love them. ;) nail-art-stiletto-nailsWhy?

In a sea of grungy looks & sporty styles, or men inspired fashions, stiletto nails are the perfect touch of girly glam. Although I’m not wearing my nails pointy all the time, when I do, like in heels, I feel irresistible. They’re that card that gives me a free pass at wearing the most unflattering thing, or being total slob but looking polished. Or posh. lips and nailslong-nailsstiletto-nails4. Peplum Trend giovanna-bataglia-peplum-jacketPlease, for the love of God, make it stop. To me this is a definite Kill it situation, but for the rest of the world it’s probably a keeper. Reversed nails thing. (more here)peplum-trend-2014street-style-peplumstreet-style-peplum-top5. Hats Trend hat-trendsThese have to have a massive comeback. They are certainly trying to for a while now and I think they will stick. (more looks here) Beanies have. Baseball hats have, so why not this boho-chic version of the cover-your-head-with-something, right? fedora-hat-trend-2014street-style-hatbaseball-hat-trendI say Keeper to all these. Especially fedora hats! Ah.

Do You Like Your Jeans RIPPED?

$

ripped-jeansHardly a new trend, the ripped jeans look is gaining more and more spotlight due to this thing in fashion we like to call effortlessness. Could we blame those off duty models for this one? I mean they do own this can’t-be-bothered-style and loose sophistication.

Some old ripped T-shirt paired with a sequined skirt and unlaced boots in between shows. Or those ripped boyfriend jeans that make her look like a rockstar doll. Yep. I think these girls are to blame for our constant chase to look posh yet unprepared.

Who the hell would not want to emulate an off duty model’s look? Well, lots of people actually, but then again, lots would do, hence loads of trends that were born from the streets courtesy of models & fashionsistas. ripped-jeans-model-off-duty-styleOr, if ever at a loss for that who’s-to-blame-for this-trend, we’ve always got those 90′s with their grungy rock/punk styles. The ripped jeans thing? Yeah. It’s reminiscent of this decade as well. black-ripped-jeansFor some reason though I can’t seem to shake off the why behind this ripped jeans trend, and the more I linger on it, the more I find culprits. My new one: today’s cluster of styles, and the clashing of looks all into one eclectic mix. The triumph of personal style over fashion, be it made up of vintage mixed with high street or even high end brands. how-to-wear-ripped-jeansThere’s something incredibly refreshing about knowing there is no wrong way in nailing it today style wise. Sure there are some rules, but even those we can break with the right attitude. And a fuck off.

Somewhere on the way we probably just got tired of having to look all prepped up, polished and uber feminine, at all times and costs, as if striving for perfection, which doesn’t even exist. And if it did, it’s fucking boring. So we came up with this gimmick: why don’t we get a little bit from those rocknroll years, a bit from today’s glam, a bit from here, a bit from there and see what happens.

We loosen up, that’s what happens and we finally nail the much coveted effortlessness. Amen to that! streetstyle7231-webAnd to top off all this ripping, as a testimony to our incredible style originality, a new (sorta) trend was born - the Shredded Jeans!

Subtility out the window, and we’ve got girls showing off legs in oversized rolled up jeans that are literally all shredded apart, held together by the side seams.

They look best with hot heels and a tucked in white shirt, but honestly now… if you wear them with sexy stilettos any top will look fabulous: cropped, oversized, vintage, printed, plain, tee, sweater, coat, jacket, bustier and so on. jeans-trend-rippedlarge-ripped-jeans-street-styleripped-jeans (2)ripped-jeans-look-street-styleshredded-jeansstreet-style-ripped-jeans (2)Flat shoes look OK with boyfriend shredded jeans, if you’re going for a laid back androgynous style: oxfords, ballet flats, or my all time fave, sneakers. Make sure you add a cool watch and spice it up with accessories to give a bit of chicness and femininity. boyfrined-ripped-jeansripped-jeans-trend-2014Boots are probably a no-no with shredded oversized jeans, unless they’re heeled ankle boots, they’d probably look great with a coat & a beanie. ripped-jeans-street-styleIf oversized shredded jeans are too much for you, you’ll always have the kinda skinny ripped styles. Bored of your skinnies? Rip those fuckers apart and put your DIY skills into practice.

When it comes to skinnier jeans styles that are subtly ripped one thing’s certain: they look fantastic with any shoe type, from uber high heels to motorcycle boots or tennis shoes. rippedjeansripped-jeans-lookripped-jeans-streetstyleripped-jeans-styleripped-jeans-trendshredded-jeans-street-styleskinny-ripped-jeansstreetstyle-ripped-jeansstreet-style-ripped-jeans-1street-style-Ripped-Jeanswinter-style-ripped-jeansYeah, this trend is been around since forever, but I see no reason why it needs to go. Ripped or even shredded jeans for both girls and boys look cool. Sophisticated & effortless, as if we’re all trying to emulate rock stars. Or hobos.

White Jeans In Winter. What Do You Think?

$

OK, I know what you must be thinking right now : this girl’s got an obsession with jeans. Not gonna deny it, cause obviously alongside my fashion & food cravings, what 2014 does for me, is bring out a somewhat consistency in obsessions. It kicked in with the jeans trend (the ripped shit we talked yesterday), who know though what’ll be next. street-style-white-jeans-in-winterBut today no classic blue denim talk (cause we did that here & here). Au contraire. Today I dare thee to a debate:

Are white jeans cool again? And if so, should we be wearing them in winter?

how-to-wear-white-jeans-in-winterFirst of all, I know what y’all are gonna say: when were they out of style in the 1st place? Point taken. Yet, they were more of  a niche look for those summer gals emulating cruise slash luxe sailor slash rich holiday in the Mediterranean styles. You know, with the white bottoms and some bright flowery top. Or black for a bit of fashion drama by the sea.  white-jeansWhen and who decided to take this look out of its summery context right into… WINTER?

White denims are stubbornly sticking around for 2014 winter and I so-unoriginally predict spring & summer 2014. In many ways it does seem as if 2013 was just a teaser for lots of trends.

So, I dare ask – in this white denim in winter thang – where do you stand?

I, (not that anyone gives a crap, but just to humor my massive narcissistic ego I’m gonna tell you anyway) was skeptical at first, until I saw a friend of mine pulling off this style without looking like a rich infatuated socialite unaware of the fact that it is winter outside. Not summer.

This friend of mine looked cool. And slightly edgy/grungy. And then it hit me: can we pull off the white denim trend in winter and not look ridiculous?

She, alongside tones of other girls & posh fashionistats out there are holding a massive YES sign to all my born-out-of-white-winter-insecurities questions.

White does tend to appear brighter than any damn color in winter, but I’m sorta liking this trend, which I have yet to try. To the HOW screaming in my mind I have one word. (actually more.) white-jeans-winter-lookGeraldine Saglio at RochasIf you love wearing them in summer (my case) nail the look in winter with black shoes. Black ankle boots, black wedges or sneakers and a dark colored coat, black blazer or leather jacket  look best (read fabulous) with white jeans in winter. As for the top, I love the coziness of an oversized soft black sweater, or the crispy feel of a dark colored shirt tucked in. But, white does go with anything so do not shy away from colors.

And now let’s get some street style inspiration. :)  How-Wear-White-Jeans-Year-RoundOlivia-Palermo-white-jeanswhite-jeansstreet-style-white-jeans (2)street-style-white-jeansstreetstyle-white-jeansstreet-style-whitejeansstreet-style-white-jeansstreet-style-white-jeans-1street-style-white-jeans-2 (2)street-style-white-jeans-2street-style-white-jeans-3street-style-white-jeans-trrendwhite-jeans-2014-trendwhite-jeans-black-ankle-bootswhite-jeans-coat-winter-stylewhite-jeans-lookwhite-jeans-shirt-lookwhitejeans-street-stylewhite-jeans-street-stylewhite-jeans-white-sweater-stylewhite-jeans-winterwinter-style-white-jeans (2)winter-style-white-jeanswinter-trend-2014-white-jeansI’m so curious what you think about this trend: winter & summer? Or just summer?

From Russia With Love: SILK SCARVES & Why We Love Them!

$

silk-scarves-trendThis post has to start off with a sigh… which translates into our love for silk scarves. More precisely Russian silk scarves which have made a massive comeback in the past years.

Ever since Dolce & Gabbana showed their SS collections packed with Russian motives on printed mini dresses, and models wearing printed silky scarves of both Russian & Italian inspiration wrapped around their heads – the fashion world was hooked on Russian inspired everything. dolce-and-gabbana-head-scarfThis was topped by Keira Knightely’s Anna Karenina film, and Russian fashionistas turning heads at Fashion Weeks all the world. Read Miroslava Duma, the definition of fabulous street style. She was always spotted with these Russian silk scarves wrapped around her head in the most traditional, yet incredibly fresh way possible.

The “From Russia with love – Trend” was born.

Russian-trendEver since this boom, women, girls and men alike cannot get enough of the Russian silk scarf trend. It embodies luxury, richness, quality and high fashion in the most versatile possible way. Personally I’ve always adored these scarves as they reminded me of my mom when I was a kid and how she just wrapped one around her head on a windy chilly day and looked incredible. She was nailing the cool and effortless thing way before it was ever a thing. miroslava-duma-russian-scarvesWhat is it about Russian Silk Scarves that we love so much? When I met this brand – LUXYRA, an online fashion boutique designing and selling silk scarves from Russia – it just hit me.

It’s the rare mixture of yesterday’s old & traditional with today’s fashion, class but sophistication.

luxyra-wool-silk-scarvesLuxyra makes these silky sleek soft scarves, for both men & women in a factory dating from 1795 (talk about tradition, vintage vibe and old timeless values that sometimes go hand in hand with fashion and style).

These Russian silk scarves are made from high quality sheep wool & silk, with handmade fringes that are literally the icing on the cake. Together with the logo, that looks fabulous embroidered on a corner, these scarves are like the best reinvention of what Russian women used to wear in the 1700′s. Luxyra-silk-scarf-Russia-1luxyra-men-silk-scarvesThey hold on to the vintage’ness yet can be so easily adapted to today’s occasions & styles.  Which brings me to my next question:

How To Style Russian Silk Scarves? Their vibrant rich colors and patterns resemble some old Russian painting forgotten in some countryside house’s attic, now resting on rich luxurious fabrics wrapped around some beautiful fashionsta’s neck or head.

One may think due to their explosion of colors & rich flowery prints you can only wear them with basic clothes, clen cut, solid colored ones, but I beg to differ on this one. If fashion has taught us anything it’s that rules can sometimes be set aside and personal style brought to the spotlight. Luxyra-Russian-silk-scarves (2)Luxyra-Russian-silk-scarvesluxyra-scarvesLuxyra-silk-scarf-RussiaA rich printed extravagant colored Russian scarf can look so sophisticated with a printed coat, a statement top, leather jackets, dresses, and… it can go from morning to evening as the best statement accessory. Plus, it’s timeless, and goes in any season, from chilly winter days to hot summer days, when it can be your best accessory, wrapped around your head as you head to the beach or worn on your bare shoulders when you go out for dinner by the sea.

For a more quirky yet traditional style, wear it as a head scarf tied in front. With posh heels and a great personal style it will look so eclectic. Luxyra-scarves-from-RussiaOne thing I also love about Luxyra’s Russian silk scarves is that they come in so many colors, some classic toned down, some super vibrant and rich, to accommodate all styles, tastes & ages. The brown’ish tones are more subtle, and can easily go with anything.

And then there are the deep tones: pinks, reds, blues, separate or altogether in this brilliant explosion of colors and patters. While all are fabulous, it’s these ones I love most. Russian-silk-scarves-LUXYRAluxyra-scarvesNeed some fashion inspo? Here are some street style pics of how girls are wearing their Russian silk scarves. ;) My Luxyra scarf will arrive soon and I’ll post some pics of how I’ve styled mine as well. head-silk-scarvesmen-silk-scarvesmiroslava-duma-street-style-Russian-scarvesNick-Bronson-scarf-cashmere-silk-streetstyle-styleRussian-silk-scarf-streetstyleRussian-silk-scarvesscarves-street-stylestreet-style-miroslava-duma-Russian-scarfwww.thewindofinspiration.comstreet-style-Russian-scarves (2)street-style-Russian-scarves

Crop Tops: The Scariest Trend?!

$

margaret-zhang-croptopBetween eyeballing the latest fad in town & that illegally delicious cake, we’re left with a ton of frustration, so if by the end you decide to jump on the latest trend wagon or dis it altogether, that cake is already digesting in your stomach and you’re licking off your fingers in a state of both guilt and satisfaction.

(with the promise to kick start a healthy meal & workout plan, come Monday).

Nobody can make a wise decision on an empty stomach.

Truth is, some trends out there can apply to all, and SOME of them only apply to a bunch of people, who are usually aliens and live on air. Such is the case of crop tops, which seem to deliberately refuse to leave the spotlight in Spring Summer 20142014-summer-trend-cropped-topsPerhaps that’s a good thing. By the end of this trend more and more women will have toned stomachs.

Frankly I have no fucking idea how all these street style fashionistats pull it off. Most of them are either editors or established bloggers who presumably have little to no time to even piss in peace let alone hit the gym. How do they do it? bare-midriffs-trendRag & Bone Women's Collection - Runway - Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2014Back in the ’90′s when this trend was huge and I was tiny it was a piece of cake. Wearing something longer than my belly button was a blaspheme. Blizzard cold or sweaty hot I had a flat stomach to show. And I did. But it was against all earthly & physical laws, cause I ate & drank crap, with hardly ever any exercise.

When my body aligned itself to the humans’ laws I couldn’t care less, cause crop tops were a thang of the past. Until (as of last year or so) they were not anymore.

And somewhere between reminiscing on those ’90′s that I loved so much, and hitting the age which requires a healthy lifestyle (sans le hangovers) here I am, tons of years later – embracing the crop tops trend. With the inherent gulp and a massive fright I’m trying to conceal under a long top, of course. At the end of the day we all need a push for a healthy lifestyle. I’ve just decided mine was CROP TOPS.cropped-tops-trendAs I keep day dreaming about flat abs, mountains of chocolate and fancy crop tops, (what? In my universe they coexist.) I can’t help but wonder:

How in the name of God did they make such a huge comeback? Did I not have enough of them on the 1st round?

Errr. Apparently no. They’re comeback is due to fashion being cyclic, to Rihanna, Cara Delevingne, Miley Cyrus et all (who were infants or not even born in the 90′s, so are picking on our leftovers), and last but not least to the whole fitness body culture that’s happening today.

More and more women are taking up sports, lifting weights, doing pilates, staying hours in the gym and eating healthy. I hope we do realize youth is not meant to last a lifetime, but I suppose in the hope of prolonging  it, we’ve given birth to this svelte ripped body obsession. Before you stand up and applaud this as today’s major movement, think again. It was born in the ’80′s.

The 90′s had the heroin look (think Kate Moss) and an obsession for boobs, which was a nightmare for most girls. Take my word. Growing up as a enormously tall skinny teenager came with the Kate Moss’ish perks but the flat chest downside. Which, as years and carbs went by, grew in size (alongside everything else), but hey! that’s the one perk of putting on weight and I’ll take it, thank you.

According to the crop tops invasion, today the world is focused on toned abs and flawless stomachs. Hmm. And I thought we were all ass-obsessed. With the Kardashian thing and all. That would have been so much easier. Although, the more thought I give to this tremendously shallow topic, the more I acquiesce to the fact that what is IN today are ripped toned healthy bodies, be it skinny or curvy.

So, does that mean all women wear crop tops in 2014 SS? YES. What? YES. Do you need me to repeat that? YES. YES. YES.

Listen to this. In 2014 crop tops are more a display of midriffs – above the belly button around your ribs – which is thought to be the most ripped and skinniest part of a woman’s body. So it’s more of a retro look: high waisted anything (jeans, cutoffs, shorts, skirts, trousers etc.) and a crop top that leaves just an inch of your skin for display. bare-midriffbare-midriff-stylecropped-sweater-street-styleSure if you want to show kilometers of stomach go ahead. Rub it in our faces, why don’t you? You know what they say: if you’ve got it, flaunt it. crop top lookcrop-top-coachella-stylethe-crop-top-street-style-paris-milan-new-york-fashion-week-_-3Another crop top look perfect for normal people is the boxy or larger top that ends around your belly button, right where it meets the top of your trousers and skirts. street-style-crop-tops-bare-midriffsthe-crop-top-street-style-paris-milan-new-york-fashion-week-_-1And now for some fashion inspiration slash sports motivation let’s check out some crop tops styles & how to wear them. ;) croped-topscropped-shirt-street-stylecropped-top-2014-trendcropped-tops-look-for-cold-weathercropped-tops-stylecropped-tops-trend-2014-spring-summercropped-top-winter-streetstylecrop-top-diane-krugercrop-tops-bustiers-street-stylecrop-top-skirtcrop-tops-lookcrop-top-street-style-summercrop-tops-trend-2014-spring-summercrop-tops-trend-2014-spring-summer-1grungy-look-cropped-topgrungy-look-cropped-toptumblr_mw6cqxKZlO1s5vvv4o1_500tumblr_mv76v9zRwK1s5vvv4o1_500IMG_3157roppedtops-street-stylestreetstreet-style-crop-topstreet-style-cropped-topsummer-look-crop-topitem12.rendition.slideshowVertical.spring-2014-trends-crop-topsspring-2014-trends-cropped-topsCause we’ve just established we’re all aliens and can pull off this look without contemplating starvation, but with a massive burger shoved up our faces, there is only 1 downside to this trend: we can’t wear crop tops to the office.

Are Men In Polo Shirts Hot? From The Golf Course To The Streets…

$

street-style-men-polo-shirtWell, well, well. ‘What do you say, what do you know?’ polo shirts are back! Not that they’ve ever really been out of fashion, given their main purpose and incredibly versatile trait, which translates into numerous styles for numerous occasions, ages and walks of life. For all men.

Just had a chat with my brother over this golf-look & he agrees they’re IN. Besides, his fashion choices and some of my male friends’ testify to boys’ love for the classic POLO SHIRT. street-style-polo-shirtsFor the past 50 years or so men have stubbornly refused to give up on these. From the Kennedys, to movie stars who paired them with crispy pants on their yacht getaways, to filthy rich men in a middle life crisis and pressed pants, tanned playboys, young wannabe professionals, preppy East Coast boys, all the way to actual golf players, and Scott Disick – everyone expressed their penchant for proper fashion in the polo manner.

old-abd-new-looks-polo-shirScott+Disick-polo=-shirt-lookScott+Disick-polo-shirtThe polo shirt has got that special something that screams ‘I do care about fashion, but really I can’t be bothered every day, so I just threw this on.’

Why the POLO comeback? We can blame it on high end brands, I mean it was only last Fashion Week that designers gave us a free pass at all sporty things. With the inherent self razzmatazz and personal touch, (which I’m sure our boys do not lack) Spring 2014 will belong to the sporty chic sartorial choices. Moments & snapshots from a golf course, a yacht, or a race are great sources of inspiration.

Or we could always blame Leonardo Dicaprio for the POLO comeback. He practically lived in this look the entire film - The Wolf Of Wall Street.

How to wear Polo Shirts?

  • For a preppy/old Hollywood rich actor style pair them with chinos or pressed trousers, loafers & shades. It’s relaxed and casual. You can also throw on a blazer, which beats the leather jacket when it comes to polo shirts.
  • For a 50′s meets 70′s style go for polo shirts in stripes, patterns, checks, and those muted ice-cream colors. Pair them with skinny trousers, jeans or shorts and always roll up your trousers for a cooler vibe. To play with styles switch up shoes: loafers, sandals, oxfords, sneakers. No boots.
  • Feeling adventurous or hipster cool. Dare to wear bright bold colors: neon green, turquoise blue, reds, pinks, fuchsia et all. Pair them with just about all the above and your sunnies.

menswear-polo-shirtsstreet-style-men-polo-shirtsCasual office wear, weekend cool guy, beach relaxed style, whatever you choose to do is great with just ONE DON’T rule. STOP popping your fucking collar. Unless you’re Alex Turner out on the prowl again, of course. alex-turner-polo-shirtalex-turner-polo-shirt-look

9 Trends To Wear In 2014 Spring!

2014-spring-trends-from-theYeah we’ve got a few weeks left until Spring (to say the least) but that don’t mean we can’t start preparing for this year’s hot season. Tons of trends are making their way into the springs and summers of our 2014 lives, and I think knowing what lies ahead can be a great shopping insight and practice-makes-perfect situation until the warm weather kicks in.

Who the hell says we can’t start wearing 2014 Spring trends in winter? Why wait? Exactly. 2014spring-trends2014spring-trends (2)Freshly picked off the runways straight into retail chains (if not first done by a few celebs) these trends will be massive this Spring. Sure, some have always been a warm season hit, and apparently continue to woe us year after year, others are really new, and others are well… reinvented. runway-trends2014runway-trends-2014runway-trends-2014-summerWhat I can tell you is that 2014 Spring is a fabulous & exquisite cluster of every trend and look from the 50′s to today. 2014 is still all about personal style and mixing your shit, rather than chasing trends. Yet… a bit of what-to-wear insight never hurt anyone. runway-trends-2014-spring1. PASTELS & LIGHT PINKS

Huge on the runways the dusted muted ice-cream colors remind us of those 50′s housewives dressed in proper skirts and tiny sweaters in the cleanest most delicious colors ever: mint, light blue, warm whites, muted yellows, peaches. And the massive hit: PINKS.

Personally I’m not a big fan of this ice-cream color trend, as I find it a bit ‘in-between’. And sort of too PJ style. Anyway… I’ve been taught by fashion to never say never, so there you have it. 2014-spring-trends2014-summer-trends-pastelspastels-street-style2. ATHLETIC

Designers were all smitten with the professional sporty look, or the incredibly polished/athletic styles of the upper class. The runway was invaded by clothes inspired from the golf course, swimming pool, tennis court, cricket, riding, running and God knows what other sports the aristocracy prefers. Wanna look posh? Wear sporty chic or athletic inspired clothes mixed with your own style.

Basically it’s the same sporty luxe thing, done by pop stars for the past year, with a slight more polish & femininity to it. athletic-trend-2014-springathletic-trend-street-style3. 90′S

Okay. We will NOT go there anymore. Crop tops, biker boots, flanels, cutoffs, ripped jeansdark lips, chokers, plaid. You know the drill. 90s-street-style-trend90s-trendstreet-style-90s-trend4. BUTTON-DOWNS & WHITE COLLARS

Well, well, well. Never have I thought the day will come when office wear got a makeover. SHIRTS in all forms, shapes, sizes, colors and textures are IN. This is one big hit off the runways, with models wearing them buttoned all the way up, or unbuttoned up or down. (like button up from your neck to your midriff, and leave it open from there down).

Although collarless coats and jackets are incredibly trendy this spring, when it comes to shirts keep it classic: WHITE COLLARS on any color shirt. shirts-trend-2014-summerspring-2014-trend-shirtswhite collar trend-2014-springwhite-collars-trend-2014-spring5. SKIRTS

Never ever have skirts in all sizes and lengths have had such a glorious moment in fashion, as this year. From pencil straight, to pleats, from mini (off the tennis court inspired) to maxis all is IN. Although they say the spotlight will belong to tea length skirts and high slits. floral-skirtskirtsskirts-street-stylestatement-skirt-streetstylblack-maxi-skirt6. BOXY TOPS

This I love in theory. In practice… unless you’re skinny you’ll probably end up looking like a chest of drawers. I’ve never really been into boxy cuts, cause I find them pretty unflattering. Nevertheless, I would not say no to a boxy cropped T-shirt with boyfriend jeans.

Boxy jackets, coats and all types of tops in this shape are IN. 2014-spring-trend-boxy-tops-streetstylestreet-style-boxy-trend7. PRINTS

These have always been a hit of the hot season. Florals? Duh. (click here for more). 2014 Spring will see the rise of 2 huge print trends: POP ART & GRAPHIC.

Inspired by nothing else than this culture of pop we’ve got and the times we live, these prints are a great combo of modern and retro. I adore a touch of 50′s or 70′s retro in a look. 2014-spring-floral-printgraphic-prints-2014-spring2014-spring-trend-graphic-printspop-art-prints-streetstyl,estreet-style-pop-art-print-2014-trend8. OPULENCE & LUXE DETAILS

Ina sea of sporty-boxy looks we girls need a bit of jazz and glamour. So thank God for SPARKLES, CRYSTALS, SEQUINS LAME, FRINGES & HOLOGRAPHIC textures (click here for more). They are all (still) IN and I could not be happier about it.

Whether as small embellished details on collars, sleeves, or hems, or invading clothes altogether, these luxurious textures and cluster of opulence has never been more appealing than this spring. I can already picture a fabulous look: athletic inspired style meets luxury details. ;)

Not a new thing at all, but feels good to know we’ve got a free pass at draping ourselves in sequins like it’s a New Year’s Eve party all year round. lame-trend-spring-2014-streetstyleholographic-trend-street-stylestreet-style-crystalsstreet-style-luxurystreet-style-fringes (2)street-style-fringesstreet-style-sequins-2014-trend9. SUITS.

Ladies man up, cause that 70′s style suit is back in fashion. Alongside this retro oversized flowing cut, those late 90′s early noughties suits are catching the spotlight as well. Two words. Bold colors! Ta-daaa. suits-street-stylespring-tyrend-2014-suitsstreet-style-suitsstreet-style-suits-2014-spring-trendThese are just a few of the looks we can do over the hot season, but plenty more to come, as well as a closer look at each and everyone one of these over the next months.

Cant’wait to see what you all think, and whether or no these trends will stick. :)

Is TINY The New Oversized? We Talk SWEATERS For Spring!

tiny-sweaters-styleHa! I guess it’s out with the old, in with the new for 2014 Spring/Summer. New being small & tiny fitted sweaters, the opposite of what we’ve been doing for the past year. Hey, I’m not shouting a trend yet, just thinking a lot about the what if behind this look, courtesy of quite a few ladies who ditched their BF’s tops for a more feminine, sexy slash girly take on sweaters.

Think 1950′s (slight obsession alert!) or even late 90′s. Hmm. Not bad. Not bad at all. I must confess the hobo look was getting redundant. spring-2014-trend-tiny-sweatersfitted-sweatersOkay, truth is I’m kinda of angry and frustrated right now. Just when I got the hang of, and mastering of the oversized look, BAM! gotta give it up. Well, I don’t have to, but you know what I mean.

Cause let me tell you something, wearing your husband’s sweaters is NOT an easy job. He’s humongous. You’re tiny… Before you know it people might mistake you for a walking sweater. No body, no face. Just a sartorial choice itself.

And now fashion is telling me to dis this art aside? And YOU WONDER WHY I’M ANGRY?

Okay I’m joking. Caps are off. Role-playing the Devil’s advocate is fun.

Actually I couldn’t be happier about the TINY SWEATERS, cause personally (as much as I do like oversized sweaters, which are perfect for fat-days & freezing-winters) I adore tiny fitted sweaters. And I never thought I’d see the day they made a comeback. So I’m quite happy they’re trying to breakthrough again. 2014spring-trend-tiny-sweatThere’s just something so very cute and feminine about a small sweater with rolled up fitted sleeves, that hugs the body and hems up to the waist – I think it’s irresistible. Pairing it with a skirt (be it full, midi, maxi, pencil or mini) is just fucking great! 50s-style-sweaterfitted-tiny-swetaer-skirtsmall-sweaters (2)I think the secret lies in the simplicity of the look. It’s a what-you-see-is-what-you-get kinda situation. Yeah you can splurge on accessories, or go for a bold color or funky print top, but the effect is the same. SIMPLE silhouette.

Perfect for office, for dates, for dinners, for smarter meets casual occasions, the tiny sweater can adapt in spring or chilly summer days/evenings to a more relaxed look. Think cutoffs, flirty mini dresses, shorts.summer-sweaters-looktiny-sweaters-street-styleOr go for a sophisticated look with heeled pumps and ripped jeans. Perfect! tiny-sweaterA long trench coat over will give a bit of boho Parisian vibe to it all. A leather jacket is very loose and rock style. A blazer is office appropriate.

Shoes wise… of course anything goes. classic-sweaters-streetstyletiny-sweater-trend-spring-2014What I love most about the TINY SWEATER look is the fact that it’s bulk free. YES! I also love them in bold colors and crazy prints, as they can make any pair or jeans, shorts or plain skirt look sophisticated. Hot heels and a cool leather jacket on will give you extra chicness.

Let’s see some street style inspiration! :) Paris Fashion Week Streetstyle, outside Louis Vuitton, Alexa Chungfitted-sweater-classic-lookfitted-sweaters-business-lookfitted-sweaters-spring-trendfitted-sweaters-street-stylefitted--sweater-streetstylefitted-sweaters-trendsmall-chunky-sweatersmall-sweater-maxi-skirtsmall-sweater-streetstylesmall-sweaters-trendsmall-sweaters-trend-2014small-sweater-summer-trendsmall-waist-sweater-stylestreet-style-small-sweaterstreet-style-small-sweaterswaist-small-sweaterstiny-sweater-trend-spring2014tiny-fitted-sweaterssummer-sweaterssummer-sweaters-2014summer-sweaters-trendsweaters-for-springWhat do you think? HOT 90′s Trend: Shirts Around The Waist. YES Or NO?

$

flannel-tied-around-the-waist-trendAside from the imminent inner cry and panic I’m getting right now (talk about feeling old), this trend is pretty darn great. In a casual meets cool kinda way. Plus a slap in the face from reality. You know you’re practically ancient when you’ve witnessed & done the trend second time around.

But… maybe, just maybe practice makes perfect you know. Besides, no trend has ever come back without a slight reinvention, so there you have it. 90s-trend-shirt-tied-around-the-waistIf the 90′s had me wearing plaid flannel shirts tied around my waist for less of a style purpose and more for a comfort meets practicality reason, usually with sneakers or Doc Martens, today I can wear just about any long sleeve top (or jacket for that matter) tied around my waist with any type of shoes. Heels please! Oh and skirts & dresses work too. 90s-trend-shirt-tied-around-the-waist-with-heelsOkay I may have to refrain my style wilderness and not wrap a plaid shirt around some posh cocktail dress, but a jersey one par example does sound pretty great actually.

Could it be that with age comes wisdom? Or maybe a dose of je m’en fiche‘ism you know, which actually is the icing on a cake when it comes to personal style. 2014 definitely comes with the latter for me. I’m still as crazy as fuck, and based on my selfies sorta immature.

Although, apparently we live more in the 90′s than in 2014, I’m still surprised the SHIRT AROUND THE WAIST trend made it. For me, it’s clearly a what? situation. Not complaining a bit though. Autosave-File vom d-lab2/3 der AgfaPhoto GmbHBack in the day it was done cause we were all kids you know. I never saw my mom tying up long sleeve tops around her hips. 14, 15, 16, 20 year old kids/teens living in the times of Beverly Hills 90210, Kurt Cobain and Seattle grungy fashion/music/art scene. The times of Liv Tyler, Alicia Silverstone, Winona Ryder, Johnny Depp & Kate Moss, supermodels

Everyone was rockroll and depressive, rebels without a cause, who tied up flannel old shirts around our ripped jeans or cutoffs because it was cool to be uncool. It was practical. Why carry them, or pack them in backpacks (which too made a comeback go figure) when wrapping them around ourselves was so much easier.

Back then it was mostly a case of PLAID & FLANNEL around our bums, rather than jackets or any long sleeve. Rarely done for style’s sake, a red or brightly patterned in checks flannel popped fantastic against jeans and a plain tee. Autosave-File vom d-lab2/3 der AgfaPhoto GmbH90s-trend-shirt-tied-around-the-waist-style2014 is apparently in tears over this grungy incredibly cool decade, that everyone from kids to close-to-40-year-old-fashionstas are doing or repeating it. My mom still refuses to.

It started off from bloggers (that’s what I think anyway) who’ve seen it on off duty models, no older than 19, who’ve seen this on pop stars their age, who were styled by those who’ve been there and done this trend 1st time around.

Now every woman who loves fashion and works in a domain that allows her to dress to her moods is practically an unstable fashion maniac who’s effing all the rules, Do’s and Don’t's that come with age, job description, or God knows what other idiotic criteria. It’s a time for us to feel liberated and dress the same way as our kids. Is that OK, I wonder?

Why not, really. I think it’s incredibly 2014ISH to be any age and have the balls to wear whatever the fuck you please. From crop tops to minis to sneakers, baseball caps. It’s fashion. It’s fun. It’s a form of expression, that does not come with an age limit. So yes, today’s girls and women alike wear shirts tied around their waists, cause it looks great.

10 years later and it still has the practicality too. In hiding my bum and keeping me warm this time. (age kicking in). streetstyle-90s-trend-shirt-tied-around-the-waistplaid-flannel-around-the-waist-street-stylealexa-ching-90s-trend-shirt-tied-around-the-waist90s-trend-shirt-tied-around-the-waist-2014-lookWhat Is Different In The Shirt Around The Waist Trend Today?

  1. It can be any top with long sleeves, although the plaid flannels still capture the whole style better. Having said that you can get the negligent effortless casual look with any type of shirt (NOT a crispy white tuxedo style though) from plaid to denim to even leather jackets or bombers.
  2. Use it as an accessory. A pop of color against a plain or monochromatic outfit. Keep the top simple (color or print wise) and go crazy, if you can’t help yourself, with trousers, skirts, shorts and shoes.
  3. Shoes wise, ANYTHING goes, not just sneakers or Doc Martens. Flats, boots, and incredibly sexy heels.

A look at some great street style pics for inspiration. :) 90s-trend-jacket-tied-around-the-waist90s-trend-shirt-tied-around90s-trend-shirt-tied-around-the-waist-2014-look (2)90s-trend-shirt-tied-around-the-waist-street-style2014-trend-90s-grunge-shirtbomber-tied-around-the-wait-trend-2014celebs-90s-trend-shirt-tied-around-the-waistflannel tied around the waist-streetstyleHow-to-wear-shirt-around-the-waist-trend-in-2014nicole-richie-90s-trend-shirt-tied-around-the-waistplaid-shirt-tied-around-waist-street-stylerita-ora-90s-trend-shirt-tied-around-the-waistshirts-wrapped-around-the-wstreet-style-90s-trend-shirt-tied-around-the-waiststreet-style-plaid-shirtsummer-2014-trend-shirt-around-the-waisttied-around-waist-shirtsPerhaps it’s our hunger for fashion gone wild, hardly ever wrong for that matter, or maybe we just didn’t get enough of this style from back in the day. Or maybe we’re just a tad oh-so-wise (yes I am avoiding the other age implying word) and have to let this one go. It’s the 2014 hipster kids’ turn now.

Still, that don’t mean we can’t join in. 30′s are the new 20′s right? Does that card still work by the way? Hello… Anyone…

The PINK Invasion!

2014-spring-trend-pale-pinkThat fashion is inconsistent and pretty much all over the place is really, no news. So I don’t know why I’m as surprised as I am for this PINK Trend that’s been going on all throughout fall, into this winter and will definitely linger on onto Spring & Summer 2014. Why the surprised face? Well… with the 90′s trend getting bigger by the minute (if that’s even possible. It is apparently.) pardon my assumption of grunge, black, plaid, rock meets punk and rave everything.

But really, thank God for a touch of girly and feminine, although (brace yourselves right now) I don’t really care that much for pink. Actually at all. Actually I hate pastels.

And pastels are huge this season. A part of me sees them as retro ice-cream colors worn by ’50′s moms or depraved housewives with eyeliners thinker than a pinkie, a cigarette and a glass of martini in their hands. Draped in light shades of pink, blue or mint with tiny flowery patterns and those kitten heels and mini boxy bags – these women were feminine alright. So I guess it’s the nostalgia over the upsides of those times that triggered the comeback of pastels and literally the invasion pale pink everything. all-pink-everythingIf last season we had a thing for neons (pink included) I guess we’re now toning down ladies, which in itself is a great thing for variety’s sake if not anything else.

Yesterday’s PINK:bright-pink-dressbright-pink-lookbright-pink-streetstyle20130124-200100neon-pink-streetstyleToday’s PINK: pale-pink-street-style-spring-201rYet not all is so damn pale in paradise. Well, actually it is, but not in a bad way. Truth is there is something very very very incredibly elegant and understated sexy in pale pinks. A little sick actually, but in that opulent decadent kinda way. Doesn’t make any sense, I know. Just forget about it. I’m having one of those lives days. pale-pinksAside from the inherent redundant girly feminine retro trait it holds, pale pink is also a hue of extremes. On one hand it belongs to the proper aristocracy with its hidden improprieties (hence my vision of sick regarding it) and on the other it’s a tool of punk fashion.

It’s that very touch of sexy and feminine it has that makes pale pink look incredible when paired with styles and colors of the same range (pastels and girly dresses, soft lines, retro hues, skirts, coats and very elegant rich outfits). But also at the very extreme lies this color’s ability to be everything else. When paired with a rock or punk inspired look it makes it more chic and brings it together with a touch of sexiness. street-style-pink-dress (2)It looks great actually paired with its contrasts in every form, from color to style. Personally I think it’s pale pink at its very best when worn like that. street-style-pink-hairBut then again there’s the retro sophisticated yet simple soft look of pale pink so very well showcased and mastered by Kim Kardashain. It was actually courtesy of the new blonde bombshell I got to like pale pink. Whether it was her, Kanye or God knows who, who style her – she pulled it off fantastic and showed me (don’t know about you) that pale pink is not just a thang of the dusted past, of our grandmas when they in the prime of their time. No. It can be done very modern, simple & understated. kim-kardashian-pale-pink-lookAnd now some street style inspiration. ;) 2014-summer-trend-pinkhow-to-wear-pale-pinkpale-pink-coat-street-stylepale-pink-hairpale-pink-hair-lookpale-pink-lookpale-pink-summer-2-14pale-pink-trendpink-bagpink-lips-rihannapinkstreet-style-pinkpink-suit-streetstylepink-sweater-streetstylerock-look-pink-hairsoft-pink-trendstreet-style-all-pale-pink-lookstreet-style-pale-pink-coatstreetstyle-pale-pinksstreet-style-pale-pink-trendstreet-style-pink-1street-style-pink-2street-style-pink (3)street-style-pink-3street-style-pink-4wearing-pale-pinkstreet-style-pink-5street-style-pink-6street-style-pink-7 (2)street-style-pink-hair (2)streetstyle-pink-dressstreet-style-pink-dressAll in all the pale pink trend looks great. Hell it looks amazing if you’re into these pastels. If not (like myself) it may be worth giving it shot on those days when being a girly girl seems like the best idea. Or when you feel like channeling you’re inner royal (secretly decadent) persona.

‘But we’ll never be royals…’ ta-na-na-na-na-na-na-na.

Do Bloggers Have A New Obsession? The Tulle SKIRT.

$

2014-spring-trend-tulle-skirtsDon’t know about you, but I am loving all that is happening in fashion these days. Yeah, yeah, I know, it’s all a bit chaotic and all over the place, with everything in and nothing out, but just think about it? No more style boundaries. No more rules. Every style compromise and once sartorial concession seemed to have literally vanished.

One day women want to be glamorous femmes fatales, the other it’s all about channeling your Tom boy’ish persona. Ha. ’90′s are happily married to those ’50′s with their feminine silhouettes and ice-cream colors. And if you thought your inner girl or bride to be persona was a No-No place to go with your fashion choices. Pfff. Think again sista’.

Just a few months ago we saw women of all ages and styles don this wedding trend, like there was no tomorrow. Why wait? Or why not repeat the fashion statement sans le freaking wedding hysteria? tulle-assive-skirt-styleOkay, let’s stick to today’s post. (why the hell do I keep rambling, I don’t know.) Style bloggers did it again. Obsessing over an item. The TULLE SKIRT. These sartorial explorers have taken the tutu right out of the ballet room and brought it on the streets. Whaaaat? Credit I do give them, but seriously now? I never would have thought this skirt trend would stick as much as its predecessor did. The skort. Remember?

Or, wait. We could give the credits for this one to the one and only, drumrolls… Carrie Bradshowtulle-skirts-carrie-bradshoAnd so the tulle skirt is back. And I kinda love it. It’s retro. Feminine. Girly. Incredibly chic and doesn’t take itself too seriously. Sure you might look like a pretty overly decorated cake or those massive ice-creams I keep obsessing about (gotta treat myself to one asap.), but dayum! the overall tulle skirt look rocks. Especially with some hot heels and a leather jacket. Stunning! Wendys Lookbook Tulle Skirt Streetstyle FashionBasically it embodies everything us girls love about fashion, and going all the way with the tulle skirt is acceptable. Sexy stilettos, red lips and ponytail. At this point nobody gives a shit what top you’re wearing, so glaming it up or going understated with a plain ol’ tee is up to you. white-tulle-skirt-streetstyleShoes wise, like I said, stilettos do it better, yet some fashionsiats out there pull it off brilliantly in sneakers as well. tulle-skirts-sneakersthe-tulle-skirt-trendWhat is key to the tutu is its length. While I do own one (mini black tulle, I’ve only wore once and loved it.), today’s trend is mostly about the midi skirt in pastel colors. Remember those retro 50′s silhouettes? Ding! street-style-tulle-skirts-trendretro-chic-street-style-tulle-skirtsSo style-rules wise, let’s not even bother girls. If you love it, rock it. It if looks good, it probably looks great. Do your thing. I can agree however, the tulle skirt may be a bit too much. For some. Sometimes. There is a reason I’ve only wore mine once. It has to do with ridiculousness and the fear of. But back then I may have come across as a demented fashion lover unaware of her not so young age, desperately trying to fit into some girl’s ballet tutu, or grabbing onto some lost childhood dance memory.

Today… more girls love the look and do it. Soooo… pardon my go-with-the-crowd on this one, but it does tend to make one feel less exposed when more people do it. With the inherent downside: it can become way too generic at some point. Better milk it while it’s not so hot then. :))

And now some street style pics for inspiration… bloggers-style-tulle-skirtscream-tulle-skirthow-to-style-tulle-skirtsstreet-style-tulle-mini-skirtsstreet-style-tulle-skirtsstreet-style-tulle-skirts-1street-style-tulle-skirts-3street-style-tulle-skirts-4street-style-tulle-skirts-2014street-style-tulle-skirts-lookstreet-style-tulle-skirts-ministreet-style-tulle-skirts-stylestreet-style-tututulle-skirt-bloggers-trendtulle-skirt-over-jeanstutu-skirt-styleWhich brings me to my question. Will this skirt trend be the IT look of 2014 spring? Do you think it will stick? Is it a bloggers’ thing and if so, have they done it again?

When Streets Turn Into Catwalks! New York Fashion Week 2014 Fall.

2014-NYFW-streetstyle-best-dressed-3This is a post on and for fashion addicts. Yes chicas this is STREET STYLE at New York Fashion Week. Cause why the hell not, right?

I mean seriously if I see one more thing about the inherent holiday frenzy (yes Valentine’s Day, I’m looking at you) I swear I’ll turn sick. There’s only so much pink, reds, hearts, forced (or not) love, one can take.

I know yesterday I was preaching this, but give a girl the right excuse and she’ll turn it into fashion. So anyway, on braking the routine of the quite predictable week (yes more Valentine’s Day posts are to follow. What?) why not give in into some ridiculously lustful extravagant, exaggerated, avatgarde, fashion frenzy the street styles at FWs hold? Ding2014-fall-FashionWeek-NY-ststreetstyleThough I haven’t yet seen all collections, I wonder if the trends on the streets match the ones preached by designers?

Not for this season, for the next. Cause you know, if the creme de la creme of the fashion world is not precocious, I don’t know who is. Well… when you’re rich and famous, or are the biggest editor/PR or fashion blogger, that’s not very difficult, more so, wearing the newest of the new comes with the job description. off-duty-models-NYFW-2014-f2014-NYFW-streetstyle2014-NYFW-streetstyle-20Trends ON & OFF Runways?

  • Oversized seemed to be a huge look on the runways. Streets stuck to it.
  • Socks in sight with heels, sandals and any shoe will be massive, and the the gurus know it. And did it.
  • Extremes are still in, so basically ALL is still IN. Grungy black, dark looks live happily and side by side with an explosion of colors, prints, patters in the most wild, funky mixes ever.
  • Red lips rule man.
  • So do the details that make a look: bags, funky stilettos or weird shoes. Nails. Hats. Face Masks.
  • 90s accents, a bit of 70s. So yeah basically retro inspo is still a thing.

And now… let us marvel at how the gurus do it… :) 2014-NYFW-streetstyle-12014-NYFW-streetstyle-22014-NYFW-streetstyle-32014-NYFW-streetstyle-42014-NYFW-streetstyle-5 (2)2014-NYFW-streetstyle-52014-NYFW-streetstyle-62014-NYFW-streetstyle-72014-NYFW-streetstyle-82014-NYFW-streetstyle-112014-NYFW-streetstyle-12winter-street-style-Fashion-weekwhat-to-wear-to-FWmodels-off-duty-2014-NYFW-streetstylemiroslava-duma-2014-NYFW-streetstylemilitary-style-2014-NYFW-streetstyleblogger-2014-NYFW-streetstylechic-2014-NYFW-streetstylebloggers-2014-NYFW-streetstylebest-dressed-2014-NYFW-streetstyle-1best-dressed-2014-NYFW-streetstyle2014-NYFW-streetstyle-best-dressed-12014-NYFW-streetstyle-shoes2014-NYFW-streetstyle-172014-NYFW-streetstyle-editors2014-NYFW-streetstyle-222014-NYFW-streetstyle-132014-NYFW-streetstyle-142014-NYFW-streetstyle-best-dressed-52014-NYFW-streetstyle-242014-NYFW-streetstyle-best-dressed-322014-NYFW-streetstyle-bloggers2014-NYFW-streetstyle-detailsstreetstyle-2014fall-NYFWstreetstyle-at-NYFW-2014street-style-at-fashion-weeNYfashionWeek-streetstyleNYFW-streetstyle-best-dressFashion is simply getting better and better, dismissing all rules, effing all conformities and praising what actually matters: personal style. Flatforms For 2014 Spring. YES Or NO?

thick-soled-shoesIf you thought the fountain of those (perhaps already too redundant) 90′s has dried up, think again. It seems as though we’ve got a thing for this decade, and re-embrace way too quickly its fads, regardless of their ugliness.

Today we talk shoes. Shoes for 2014 Spring & Summer as both the runways and the streets are showing. Remember the creepers? (more on this style & its history here). With a first appearance in early 40′s, they had a more recent comeback in the 90′s, when girls were emulating the Spice Girls and the techno culture in those sky high platform shoes in wild colors, paired with tiny shorts or mini skirts, blue eye-shadow, and neon accents. 90s-flatformsRaise your hands if you wore them? I had a blue pair with black thick soles, about 5 cm high, and trust me, were I not so tall, I’d have gone way above and beyond with the platform. At this point, I’m quite glad I didn’t.

As the 90′s graced us with the return of so many trends, the FLATFORMS were the one fad I never saw coming back. After its frenzy has stopped I never saw their appeal: too bulky shoes that make you look ridiculous. Incredibly unflattering.

But as of last year or so (courtesy of street style and designers such as Alice & Olivia)… they creeped their way back in today’s fashion and my consideration. Fashionistas of all ages and styles chose the thick soled shoes over sneakers, high tops, oxfords, ballet flats, and even heels. flatforms-styleflaetforms-streetstyleI guess the deal with flatforms is combining the height of a posh shoe, with the comfort of a sneaker, that is not a wedge. flatforms-look-2014Flatforms are like those ugly-shoes-at-first-sight with a certain style to them that hooks you, or seduces you in time. They grow on you. Just yesterday I went sopping with my friend and tried on a pair of loafer flatforms from H&M, and loved them. She hated them completely; and not so completely after I tried them on.

“Aaaah. I guess they’re OK. Or maybe not. I don’t really like them.”, as opposed to “OMG, I totally hate those!”, from before I tried them on.

That was me a year ago as well. Now I’m like creepers & flatforms (not too high though) bring ‘em on. 2014-spring-shoes-flatformsflatformscolored-flatformsI love the quirkiness and that weird 90′s vibe they give to a look, how they take away from the too-sexy look a pair of cutoffs & cropped top , or a very short dress may have, and give it a bit of Tom boy’ish vibe to it.

They have a bit of it all: sporty, casual, edgy, punk, professional, cool, weird, so playing dress up with these is a massive gain in styles. Especially since they come in trillions of designs: sandals, loafers, oxfords, with laces or not, colored, printed, different fabrics, different sole height. 2014-shoes-flatformsflatforms-lookflatforms-trend (2)flatforms-trend-2014-spring-summerIn terms of how to style them, they go with just about anything a basic sneaker or ballet flat goes with, their best match for spring & summer being short flirty dresses (think 90s style & today’s music festivals fashions), short skirts, cutoffs & shorts. More of a weekend/holiday look. how-to-wear-flatformsmiley-cyrus-flatformsspring-trend-shoes-2014-flatformsstreet-style-flatforms-creepersflatforms-for-2014-spring flatforms-trendthe-shoes-of-2014-summer-flatformsSome ladies fabulously pull the masculine look for the office. Think slim cut trousers, not too long (or rolled up), pencil skirts, or even midi dresses. I like it, when it’s balanced with feminine details like: long nails, red lips, accessories. It’s got a bit of awkward meets boho chic to it all. flatform-shoes-spring-2014flatforms-look (2)flatform-shoes-lookflatforms-street-styleflatforms-trend-2014-springhow-to-style-flatform-shoesplatforms-street-stylestreet-style-flatforms-trendthick-soled-shoes-lookthick-soles-street-stylePersonally I’m not to keen on the flatforms and super skinny jeans or midi skirts combo. But who knows. It wouldn’t be the first time I’d hate something right before loving it.

It’s All About SIZE This Spring. (TRENCHES).

oversized-trench-coats-trendsNow don’t let your mind fly off to some dirty little scenarios. Or let it. And while you’re off to God knows where (Stop it now!) we’re talking trench coats here. Just so you know. With winter gone, we’re easily sliding onto the warm season, which implies 2 major things: LAYERS & TRANSITIONAL pieces.

In other words it’s a fashion heaven.

Ever since I did this post a few months ago,  I’ve been slightly obsessed with oversized trenches. First of all trench coats are the coats of fall & spring, hence transitional pieces (ding. ding.), as well as perfect pieces for layers. And with the 2014 spring silhouettes and lines getting looser and looser, it don’t get no better. loose-trench-coats-sprig-2014For 2014 spring, designers showed collections based on layers and the play of lengths, opting for oversized loose trenches in those super thin fabrics that resemble chiffon. With hems way over the knees, slightly large shoulders, yet not pointy (thank God), and usually cinged at the waist with a messy tied belt – the 2014 trenches of spring resemble their vintage ancestors & their ’70′s relatives.

valentino-spring-trench-coattrench-coats-for-2014-spring-designersWith the tiny push I got from designers, and the cool-boho-chic-meets-super-HOT-70′s-outfits-combo (think DVF and Amy Adams in American Hustle) this ’70′s obsession of mine is just getting started. burberry-2014-spring-campaign-trench-coatsSo get those 70′s-sometimes-even-80′s-silhouettes (sans le pointy shoulders. we ain’t no Gaga.) and mix them with today’s fabrics, textures and why not even funky prints and patters, if the classic ol’ nude or black trench is too boring for you, and you get today’s IT trench coat for spring. loose-trench-coats-street-style (2)It looks best with heels (classic pumps, stiletto ankle boots, strappy stiletto sandals), because it’s a great balanced look: someting-oversized-borrowed-from-your-BF clashed with posh feminine accents. I love this look with skinny jeans, and short skirts or shorts, because of the lengths play. A messy tied up belt and rolled up wrinkled sleeves will give you that can’t be bothered air, incredibly sexy-on-the-run, I-don’t-give-a-shit-what-I-have-on (but look damn good).

loose-trench-coats-street-stylelong-coats-for-women-trend-solangenude-oversized-trench-trendoversized-trench-coat-styleWhat's under Rihanna's trench coat?trench2Sure not every day is a heels mood day, so don some pointy ballet flats instead. liv-tyler-oversized-coatoversized-trench-coat-trend-2014-springSmaller heels or platforms: street-style-nude-oversized-trench-coatloose-large-trench-coat-street-stylFor a more laid back look – think bohemian posh hobo, too intellectual to give a crap – pair your super oversized long trench coat with comfy shoes: sneakers, flat boots, flat sandals, basically no heels. Colombo alert!

loose-oversized-trenches-spring-2014oversized-trenchcoat-streetstyletrench-coattrench-coat-pastel-colorPersonally I’m not too keen on the hobo look. Some people can brilliantly pull this off, I – on the other hand – always end up looking like some miserable piece of shit. And the way to avoid this unfortunate predicament is to wear posh heels. ;)

This way I can keep the oversized thing going on, I can roll my sleeves, not iron it if it suits me, and play with layers and lengths like a demented fashionsta. With heels it will look good. Well, I think it’ll look amazing. But let’s just go with good for starters. oversized-trench-coat-look-for-springAnd while I’m on a heels roll here, my theory is… anything, anything, anything, (no. that’s not a typo. I just felt it needed to be repeated.) anything looks good with heels.  No? Anyone?

What Do You Think About PALAZZO PANTS?

$

palazzo-pantsWhen a trend like this comes along, or its style is reinvented – I’m looking at you PALAZZO PANTS – it’s only normal some of us are left with the ‘looking at’, or perhaps just a raised eyebrow.

That not all trends are for everyone (as much as one loves fashion) is only common sense. And truth. Personally I feel this is the case of these loose, large, flowy pants of the 60′s and 70′s. If you’re short, forget about them. If you’re skinny and tall, I call it quits. Unless you wanna channel a willow in the wind, which of course is acceptable if we’re to look at all the beautiful models looking rather high fashion editorial (read hobo-chic) in these, rather than anything else. But, to each their own. street-style-loose-trousersSo, left with a raised eyebrow and a massive indecision regarding these trousers I decided to split my personal self into 2 personas. One who’s not too keen on these, and the other who’s considering giving them a try. Gasp. Yet upon embarking on this split personality shit I am faced with having to find greatness where it’s not. At first sight at least. For me. street-style-palazzo-pants-1Because I’d like to finish today’s post on a positive note, let’s kick off on the… errrr… less positive side of these palazzos and get it over with.

Clock’s ticking…

So over 5 minutes have passed from the aforementioned statement, and still I can’t put my finger on my dislike. Frankly it has to do with just some styles of these palazzos, and how horrendous (in my eyes) they look with oversized tops and loose long hair. OK. This sophisticated hobo trend is big now. I get it. But… I don’t. street-style-palazzo-pants-lookAnd don’t even get me started on the cropped version of these pallazzo pants… Yeah, they’re funky, and different and cool (in some parallel universe, or even this one, in which case I must be living in a different dimension)… but… let’s just say my eyebrow is still up to my hairline on this one. street-style-cropped-palazzo-pantsAt the end of the day I admit to being fully biased, as a tall thin framed woman. I’d look bloody ridiculous in these. Yet… as fashion has it… never say never. It wouldn’t be the 1st time I’d strut in some fancy fad thinking I’m the next Kate Moss, when in fact I’m hardly the next best version on myself on on my worst style day.

But… until the change of mind happens, if it will, I stand by my palazzo dislike. loose-stripe-pantsAs life has taught us, each story has two sides. Such is the case of the palazzo pants. I’m not an idiot (at least not this minute) so I can understand the frenzy and coolness of this pants trend for 2014 Spring & Summer. Doh.

Flowy silky soft fabrics, that just blow in the summer wind, making you feel irresistibly sexy and sophisticated. A bit of sheerness, some funky wild prints and patterns – the palazzo pants look for summer or spring can look very effortless and chic. It’s like wearing a maxi skirt while you’re vacationing in the South of France. summer-look-palazzo-pantsThis by-the-sea-style looks great with flats, gladiator sandals, a cropped top or even (can’t believe I’m saying this) a loose top, cause it’s got that bohemian vibe to it. palazzo-pants-street-style-Another palazzo pants style I kinda am OK with are the monochromatic high wasted ones with side pockets. Think professional woman in summer. It’s simple but classy, with a bit of that 70′s vibe to it. palazzo-pants-trend-2014wearing-palazzo-pantsRegarding the heels: whatever floats your boat. I love how simple stiletto sandals look with these, other than that I think it’s too bulky and a bit too much, too harsh. sheer-palazzo-pants-lookStill… what do I know. A photo can speak so much more than I can (not that that’s very hard to do) so let’s have a look: 2014-summer-trend-palazzo-pants89790_20140113013741palazzo panta zarapalazzo-pants-printspalazzo-pants-street-style- (2)palazzo-pants-streetstylepalazzosstreet-style-large-pantsstreet-style-loose-palazzo-pantsstreet-style-palazzo=panysstreet-style-palazzo-pantsstreet-style-palazzo-pants-2street-style-palazzo-pants-spring-2014street-style-palazzo-pants-spring-2014-trendstreet-style-palazzo-pants-spring-2014-trendstreet-style-palazzo-pants-summer-lookstreet-style-palazzo-pants-trendstreet-style-palazzosstreet-style-palazzo-trousersstreet-style-white-palazzo-pantssummer-style-palazzo-pantsYeah. Let’s just say my eyebrow in no longer as high as my hairline right now… but I don’t know about rushing off to get the latest palazzos out there. I might though. They do look pretty amazing in those photos.

Have a lovely weekend! xoxo

SHOES Trend: The Return Of The MULES!

$

mules-trend-from90s-to-2014… aaand as the 90′s continue to be of great inspiration, with them crop tops, high tops, cut-offs, jersey tees, the undercut, and whatnot, I realize one can only milk so much greatness of a situation. Hence the rebirth of a few ugly shits from back in the day: THE MULES.

The mules alongside all the slip ons, and clogs are the best ugliest shoes ever. I love them. But I hate them. Which coming from me, is of no surprise as I can barely make up my mind on coffee with or without milk on a daily basis. If I were to remain very politically correct towards my trendy glam puss persona – I’d pick the hate-mules-team. They’re not too flattering on the legs, they seem to visually cut the feet, and unless they’ve got the pointy toe they look very harsh and masculine. Dated a bit. Well, doh. They’re a 90′s shoe. mules-heels-open-toeBut then I get all nostalgic and shit and I switch to love-mules-team. How could I not, when Carrie Bradshaw had a pair on at any given time of the day and night and looked fabulous. Dresses, shorts, fur – she loved mules, slip ons and clogs. And she worked them so great it’s impossible not to reminesce on those 90′s and fall in love with them all over again. Carrie-Bradshaw-mulessex-and-the-city-mulesAnd yeah, SJP was and is the fashion icon of those times with all the fads and trends, but if you think about the 90′s shoes, mules were everywhere. Buffy had them on. The girls in Clueless. Donna, Brenda or Kelly in Beverly Hills 9021090s-trends-comeback-mulesAnd you know what… for me, it’s the nostalgia of those times that makes me go back and say I’ll take them again please!, on this 2nd round, and not give a fuck how old that makes me sound. At the end of the day it’s just shoes, and what a pity it’d be not to give in to all the fads and crazies. mules-shoe-trend-2014So the MULES are back in 2014 Spring & Summer and thanks to mostly all designers these shoe styles come in trillions of shapes and forms, so finding a great pair for you will not be hard, as much as you hate them. mules (2)mulesmules-2014-shoe-trend

What basically happens mules-fashion-wise in 2014 is taking this somewhat hideous style and making it edgy and sophisticated rather than pretty. From flats to sky high heels, stilettos, chunky heels, platforms, spikes, studs, stones, plastic, leather, cut-outs, prints, patters and all the bits you can and can’t imagine – these shoes have it all.

Cause apparently all that’s 90′s is cool. Doh. That and, as one designer put it – in a world of slit skirts, and midi lengths (2014 spring and summer) ankle straps would have looked horrible, so the mules had to have a comeback, for their ankle free quality if nothing else.

Wow. Thank God they didn’t think of classic pumps you know. :)) mules-street-styleIf you’re a classic pumps stiletto kinda girl, you’ll probably experience a slight reticence to mules, yet… they do come in less bulky designs. Basically a classic stiletto sans le back side. ta-daaa. Louis Vuitton: Runway - Paris Fashion Week Spring / Summer 2012Before doing this post I myself was in the same predicament, but I actually like them. Again. Love the clogs for a more casual, grunge, boho chic style and mood, love the stilettos for that once-90′s-business-woman-sophistication. Love all the styles. All I gotta do is think Sex and the city and BAM! Gettin’ Cheeky With It. BUSTIER TOPS Trend!

bustier-tops-street-styleSomewhere along the road, Rihanna‘s fashion sense decided to marry a cheeky-borderline-kitsch but recurrent trend form the 50′s, ’80′s and ‘90′s. Years later we’re playing dress-up with their kids.

BUSTIER TOPS are reigning this hot season, straight from those VIPs, beach catalogues and catwalks, right to the streets. Forget guarding your bra from the eyes of strangers. Well. Sort of. I don’t mean like a bra bra. Although it kinda looks like one. But it’s not. rihanna-bustier-topsbustier-top-lingerieAnyway.

I swear sometimes it feels like there’s this fashion conspiracy against us mortals to see who falls for what. Something like The  Hunger Fashion Games going on we don’t know about? So… the award for most ridiculous daring & cool style goes to…

It’s the time of the boobs, exposed stomachs, great bums & legs showing off in tiny little shorts. It’s the time of red lips during the day, of tons of makeup or bare faces likewise. Of oversized-men-inspired-covered-form-head-to-toe-looks (a little bit of sheer here and there), happily married to skin-tight-show-off-everything-and-put-a-bling-and-makeup-on-it-too looks. bustier-topsTo the untrained eye this is all a bit too much. Vulgar & cheap perhaps. But maybe, just maybe a fun quirky kinda attitude can save the day. ;)

It is fashion after all. Not rocket science. It’s meant to be fun, creative and expressive. So… why not do it all, if it pleases you. bustiers-2014It’s all this great funky circus of styles that everyone loves to experiment with, and those too scared to try yet, will just sit for the peep show. Fashion today is a win-win situation.

I do think we owe a lot of the showing of the skin looks to celebrities and all this crazy pop culture. Designers show collections, celebs wear them and have fun with clothes and all the fads, streets do their shit, and retail chains speculate on all this desire to emulate and be different at the same time. 2014-trend-bustiersSo what happens when you add this trend to this trend? (in the hope of channeling Sophia Loren or Brigitte Bardot somewhere in the South of France.) No. You do not get 2 trends. This is not math. You get 1 massive trend. Doh. And generations of women strutting their assets in BUSTIERS. And I’m not talking beachwear. What? bra-top-bustiersummer-trend-bustier-topsThis just makes me giggle (actually I laughed out loud when I remembered). You know that Seinfeld episode when Jerry took a lady to court for wearing a bra as a top? Ha. Little did he know, she was a fashion Nostradamus. bustier-bra-topBustier Styles ( floral prints, neon colors, denim, jersey, lace, embellished,  strapless or not):

bra-tops-bra-top-inspiration-stylebra-top-lookbra-tops-street-styleBUSTIERS-looks-2014-summerThis tiny little top is the statement piece of your 2014 summer and spring, from morning to evening, with ONE major DON’T alert. Don’t push your boobs up to your neck (unless they’re humongous and look naturally enhanced, in which case I’m jealous), but opt for a very clean, natural, effortless look. The bustier itself is VERY sexy. No need to up your game on this one. bra-top-trendbustier-bra-topsIt all sounds great, but let’s just have this talk for a minute. For the sake of conversation, shall we?

Assuming we’ve all got the stomachs (literally) to wear these, is there a thin line (or even a thick one please!) between those 50′s bra top styles (that women wore AS A BRA) and today’s bustiers? (which, in some cases are still bras, but we wear them as tops.)

And, if there is this thin, thick, whatever line, where the fuck is it? How do we know when we crossed it? Do we simply trust the labels saying something that looks like an underwear is actually outwear?

And is there an age limit to this? bustiers-styles-2014I don’t know man. I for one, adore this trend. Always have. Always will. It’s a great look for those hot summer days, for weekends, holidays or nights out. 2014-summer-look-bustier-topbustiers-and-bra-tops-trend-2014bustiers-for-summer-stylebustier-shorts-summer-lookCutoffs look fantastic with floral bustier tops, either cropped or not.cropped-bustier-and-cutoffslace-bustier-cutoffs-stylestreet-style-spring-2014-bustiersummer-look-bustier-shortsA night out can turn into your fashion statement with a maxi skirt, flat gladiator sandals and an embellished bustier top. bustier-top-for-evening-lookbustier-tops-trend-2014 (2)bustier-tops-trend-2014crop-bustier-street-stylecrop-bustier-topwenn3807516embelished-bustier-topI also LOVE those bra tops or cropped bustiers underneath a blazer, paired with suit pants and pencil skirts, but come on now? Fringe That Sh*t!

fringes-trend-summer-2014Pardon my French, but with the fringe trend making a HUUUGE comeback in 2014 (both in Spring & Fall, so you can go on and stack up on tasseled clothes), I’m getting this urge to cut all my hems and trims into fringes. Ah… such a sweet (and awkward too) trip down memory lane to those 90s, when every girl was wearing fringed T-shirts & spandex leggings. Cringe.

Now that this image is forever imprinted onto your brain, I’m inviting you to extend your fringe-trip down memory lane and expand your nostalgia horizons right back to those glam kitsch 1980s. Or if you think you’re so posh go straight for the gold: those roaring 20s. ;) fringes-style-2014Nothing is ever certain, everlasting or unbiased, mush less in fashion. What is certain though is that FRINGES are IN this spring & summer, and according to this Fashion Week, they’ll be IN next cold season as well. And what’s even greater (or great if you hate fringes) is the many ways we can rock this look. No. We’re not limited to those 90s. Amen to that!

In fact fashion is taking it back to those ’80s, so just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse. BAM! it did, and this bitch called fashion is rolling on her back laughing her ass off at us for going where no one ever wanted to go before. Those 80s.

But, Dearest Fashion, should you care, we’re more grown up now and have learned to be creative, so, in with the coolness of that decade and out with the kitsch. Ha! coachella-look-fringescoachella-style-fringesfinges-styleAnd for the posh personas in us all those ’20s come to our rescue with silky dancing fringes adorning our bodies on dresses, skirts, tops and whatnot. It’s glamorous, sultry and quite sexy, on a very modern silhouette: belted cinged waists, broad-er shoulders. You get it. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2014 - Official Coverage - Best Of Runway Day 7anna-sui-spring-2014-fringesNY Fashion Monique LhuillierMercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2014 - Official Coverage - Best Of Runway Day 6And last, but definitely not least on the fountain of fashion inspo topic (so feel free to get crazy and creative) a lot of this FRINGES craze takes me back to my cowgirl days, in some far far away western land, of wild untamed spirits, crazy hearts and fast horses. Yeah, I lived centuries ago in Wild Wild West. You gotta problem with that? Copy of RibbonsAdwebWell, if I must address this delicate issue I will.

My friends will probably have a huge problem with this cowboy approach, as my obsession for country music (to my defense I only blame Garrett Hedlund and his unbelievably sexy deep voice), which I see no reason in hiding, much to their embarrassment, will now be topped, enhanced and supported (YAY!) by a likewise fashion. Fringed suede jackets! Fringed boots! Hell, fringed everything and top it off with a hat! That’ll most definitely leave me looking like Dorothy freaking Page, sans le social life. Ah well, fashion comes with a sacrifice. fringes-western-stylefringes-trend-streetstyle (2)rodarte-spring-2014-fringesruby-aldridge-fringe-jacketLaugh all you want, but fringes do have this versatile power of standing as a statement in any style and look, and I may choose to be the fucking wild west diva one day, but I can switch it all up into a boho-chic Coachella chick, an 80s Madonna, a 90s kid, a rich 70s-meets-80s socialite. Ta-na-na-na-na-na-na.

The truth is, I never really gave a crap about this trend, but something changed the moment I saw a cool vintage fringed suede jacket. Oh, and I’ve always had a crush on fringed boots. So I guess the passion was there somewhere, it just needed a push. And so it got.

The jackets and boots are but a few items adorned by these pretty sultry silky tassels. Actually the world of these tassels only begins here, as the plot thickens with bags, T-shirts, blouses, skirts, belts, necklaces, hats. Told you it’s an everything thing. If you’re Meh on this trend, you may consider giving it a try with accessories: a tiny fringed bag, or a piece of fringed jewellery can be the start of a tassel romance. alessandra-ambrosio-fringes-bagfringe-boots-street-stylefringe-bracelet-street-stylefringed-bootsfringed-boots-street-stylefringed-coat-street-stylefringed-jacket-spring-2014-trendfringe-jacketfringes-look (2)fringes-lookfringes-look-street-styleWhy we should love fringes? Because, above all, they are fun.

Do All Women Like Men With Beards?

$

scruffy-men-trendOh it’s that time again. The time for us girls to look and talk about men, on one of the most discussed and flaunted men topics in the past years: FACIAL HAIR. Its power to transform any young lad into the next hipster/masculine hunk/caveman is undeniable, and all one has to do is just get sloppy with his hygienic routine. Ouch.

Well… the truth is, there’s something fucking irresistible about a guy who’s too lazy to shave off and decides to wear a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 hell a 10 days stubble and pull it off. By the time he decides to go back to the Don Draper clean shaved face, it strikes him: women have been eye-balling and flirting with him like crazy in the past days, he’s been going on dates as if he’s George freaking Clooney (btw he too has a stubble), or his partner is smitten with him as if they just met. Ha! Yep.

The beard has this spectacular power to transform boys into men. As if. But you know what I mean. 10-days-old-stubbleAccording to the vast world of web a few things have been known to remain true over time. (1) Men think they look better clean shaved, or that’s what they think women think. (2) Women prefer the scruffy look. Period. Finally someone decided to do the math on this shit, hence the scruffy look trend.

Both teams love it and for the right reasons, I mean what’s not to love about it? It adds coolness and gives a man a touch of masculinity, aggressiveness, that rugged edge and toughness they all think they have, and we all hope at least one proves true. facial-hair-trendmen-with-beards-trend-11So, if in the past, the dilemma lingered around the ‘To shave or not to shave’ question, now, as the obvious answer is NOT, the question shifts to ‘HOW SCRUFFY IS TOO SCRUFFY’?

How long does a beard have to be, or not to be, to look HOT, or before it stops looking HOT?

Ladies, it’s time to break this shit into pieces and debate.

1st of all, all male specimens should drop the goatee (before we start a revolution). It looks ridiculous. It’s either facial hair everywhere or clean shaved. Same crap applies for mutton chops. FUCK.

1. And then this heaven-of-sexy-men starts… with a 5 o’clock beard. Dayum. hot-men-street-style-menYou know that few-days-old stubble that looks soooo freaking good and instantly ups your game. This is the one style I will assume ALL women love on a man. It translates to sexy, effortless, masculine, rugged yet not too scruffy.

Some look great with both short and longer versions of the stubble. Others like Ben Affleck do the shorter version much better. Or so the vast majority of women have spoken, when he had the rather full facial hair going on for Argo, the ladies could not wait to see that go away. Well… I get it. Why hide a gorgeous face? Personally I think he’s hot no matter what, and he could make the caveman beard hot as hell. ben-affleck-long-and-short-More looks here: beards-and-menbeards-street-style-menbeard-street-style-menbeard-trendbeard-trend-men-2014ryan-gosling-scruffy-look2. Which brings me to the next facial hair look:  the Jesus beard. I think this is great on those who know how to carry it. Personal style has got a lot to do with this beard type. The Jesus look is all about personal taste: of the carrier as well as the watcher. To each their own.

I’ll say one thing. Its not that bad. On some boys. What do you think? men-with-beards-fashion-trendjesus-beard-lookThe moment your facial hair has the potential to meet your chest hair, pleaaaaaase shave. The moment by-passengers can tell today’s menu by looking at your beard, it’s time to wear a shorter version, clean shave or just take some How To Wear & Clean Your Beard classes. Those people who know what you had for breakfast yesterday are strangers!!! What’s next? Birds nesting in that shit?

But then again, who gives a crap what the rest of the world thinks? We certainly don’t, when we wear some stupid unflattering thing. So respect.

Doh. But again, if you can pull off the Jesus slash Caveman look – do it man. It’s all about personal style and the right attitude so don’t let no woman or stylist tell you otherwise.

When talking FACIAL HAIR one thing is certain: it’s the biggest trend for men for the past 2 or 3 years, alongside the undercut (all about it here) and the tattoos. stubble-look-street-style-menstubble-street-style-menstreet-style-men-with-stubblestubble-lookstubble-street-style-men (2)the-beard-trend-2014men-fashion-trends-2014-full-beardmen-with-stubblescruffy-look-street-style-menstreetfsn by Namstreet-style-men-beard (2)street-style-men-with-beardsstreet-style-men-trends-facial-hairArt Basel, Billionaire.com, Andy Barnhamstreet-style-men-looks-beardsstreet-style-men-beard-trendstreet-style-men-facial-hair-lookstreet-style-men-jesus-beardsstreet-style-men-full-beardstreet-style-men-full-beard-1This hipster-rockstar-bohemian-cool-intellectual-sexy-as-hell-mother-fucker look is all over our men. I wonder, is it because they can’t be bothered anymore, they’re too cool for shaving all of a sudden, or it’s just a trend thing?

Or are you boys trying to look more like men? Awww. ;)

The White Sneaker Invasion! YES Or NO?

$

white-sneakers-street-style-5If you’re considering buying a pair of colored chucks cause you know, spring is here, hence all colored things are in, STOP right there. I mean do go shopping, by all means, just opt for the WHITE chucks, high tops, kicks, cause this spring it’s all minimal. Clean cuts. Clear lines. Sporty luxe meets casual effortless and gives birth to chic sophisticated minimal looks.

What does this invasion mean for us, anyway? Do we stop wearing our pretty colored sneakers? Are all white sneakers in, or just high-tops par example? And how do we style them?

While the focus in 2014 Spring/Summer is on the clean cut lines and white, light, puffy minimal colors, this trend – as invasive in our fashion lives as it is – does not exclude the bright colored sneakers. White sneakers is just the TREND & the IT shoe of 2014. So keep the brights, but get a pair of whites as well. 2014-spring-shoes-white-sne2014-spring-shoe-white-sneakers2014-spring-shoe-white-sneakers-1On the WHAT sneaker type to pickANY and EVERY should sum it up. From high tops, low tops, chucks, kicks, thick soled, blinged – as long as they’re white, they’re perfect. 2014-spring-shoe-white-sneakers-5sneakers-trend-2014-white-kicks-5white-sneakers-looks-4Style wise, although seemingly they would only work with sporty’ish attire, the beauty of 2014 trend is pairing white sneakers with anything. Think about the most ridiculous combo. Now do it. From the classic summer look (cutoffs and tank tops) to casual dresses, to office looks (think silky top and trousers or skirts), to evening looks (sequined styles, evening little dress) the white sneaker is like a return to our childhood/teenage years in those 90s, when every girl had a pair of white kicks she wore with anything. Back then it was all street cool. Now the white shoe is more of a minimal less-is-more-kinda-sophistication. It’s like a break in the color-less monotony (all black look and white sneakers) or a look-away from the feet (just keep it simple and clean in white shoes) to let the rest of the outfit do the talking. 2014-spring-shoe-white-sneakers-2how-to-wear-white-sneakers-1street-style-white-sneakersthe-white-sneakers-spring-style-10While this trend is not worthy of a continuous omgomgomgomgomg - exclamation point – it’s still got that understated something that makes us all wanna be part of it. A look borrowed from ‘cool’ moms, effortlessly chic French girls, summer teens in cutoffs and flirty dresses, preppy girls turned sporty, geek versus cheeky rich socialites playing tennis. In fact, for the past year or so fashion has been obsessed with the laid back, sporty chic styles. Yeah we’re still doing the glam, the grunge and the smart – but… if you stop and give it a close look for a sec, you’ll notice all designers sent models down the runway is a classic sporty, or reinvented sporty look, whether it was sporty laid back by the shoes, or by the fabrics or colors, most collections sent our minds off to a more relaxed and athletic world, where it’s OK to wear white sneakers to work. the-white-sneakers-spring-style-11white-sneakers-street-style-12014-spring-shoe-white-sneakers-5 (2)2014-spring-shoe-white-sneakers-32014-spring-shoe-white-sneakers-4how-to-wear-white-sneakers-5runway-the-white-sneakers-spring-stylesneakers-trend-2014sneakers-trend-2014-white-kicksthe-white-sneaker-lookDoes this mean the era of posh heels is dead? Where is that OMG when you need it? When it comes to heels I could care less what the sartorial world has to say. I’m keeping them. The good news though, is that fashion today is one big whore, who lives with everyone (all being in and that shit), so it’s only normal we dress to our moods and the style labeling has long died. white-sneakers

One day we feel like a 90s grungy sexy Kate Moss, the other we’re hot as hell in sky high heels like the the ultimate glamour puss, the next we’re this Tom-boy, model off duty, socialite, manager, rock star, or 15 year old spoiled brat. All is cool. Age is just a number. Trends are just fashion. It’s all about personal style & moods. We’re all too cool to be just one and too creative to be style pigeonholed.
